2. Types of Books
There are two types of books that you’ll find in
every library that you go into...fiction & non
fiction.
Bigger, public libraries my have many
“specialized” sections, but you will still only find
two types of books.
3. Fiction
These are the “fake”
books. They can
include chapter
books, picture books,
and series books.
4. Fiction
These books are sorted alphabetically by the
author’s last name.
When you look at the white label on the spine of
the book (at our library) you will see something
like this...

5. Elementary Fiction
In our library, these are
the picture books or
any short “chapter”
book that is an AR
level blue, red, and
some green & brown.

6. Junior Fiction
These are the books in
our library that are
bigger/longer chapter
books written at an AR
level green, brown,
yellow, and some red or J

They can also include J

7. What’s on the Label?
Indicates that it is an elementary fiction book.

First three letters of the author’s last
name (which is how we sort).
8. What’s on the Label?
Indicates that it is a junior fiction book.

First three letters of the author’s last
name (which is how we sort).
9. What’s on the Label?
When you ask where a book is located, I’ll tell you
it’s on the north or west wall (if you’re looking for
fiction) and then give you the letters from the
author’s name.
That means you need to look at the BOTTOM
line on the label!
