This document discusses Christian beliefs about resurrection of the body and everlasting life. It explores what the resurrected body will be like based on passages from the Bible, noting it will be transformed and perfect. While the details of eternal life are unknown, it is described as a place of worshipping God forever without suffering where desires are fulfilled in fellowship with Jesus and others.

Resurrection and Eternal Life
1. Session 16:
Resurrection of the body
and the life everlasting.
2. The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. AMEN.
3. Resurrection of the Body
OT
“And many of those who sleep in the
dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame
and everlasting contempt”.
Daniel 12:2
4. Resurrection of the Body
NT
20 But our citizenship is in heaven.
And we eagerly await a Savior
from there, the Lord Jesus
Christ, 21 who, by the power that
enables him to bring everything
under his control, will transform
our lowly bodies so that they will
be like his glorious body.
Philippians 3
5. Am I going to be taller?
• Well...maybe a little.
– Through sanctification God has and is renewing
the spiritual parts of our being.
– When we are risen by Christ from the dead, God
renews the physical parts of our being.
– BOTTOM LINE: God’s gift to you is the perfect
you...whatever that looks like!
6. The Resurrection Body 1 Corinthians 15
35-38Some skeptic is sure to ask, "Show me how resurrection
works. Give me a diagram; draw me a picture. What does this
'resurrection body' look like?" If you look at this question
closely, you realize how absurd it is. There are no diagrams for
this kind of thing. We do have a parallel experience in
gardening. You plant a "dead" seed; soon there is a flourishing
plant. There is no visual likeness between seed and plant. You
could never guess what a tomato would look like by looking at
a tomato seed. What we plant in the soil and what grows out of
it don't look anything alike. The dead body that we bury in the
ground and the resurrection body that comes from it will be
dramatically different.
And we're only looking at pre-resurrection "seeds"—who can
imagine what the resurrection "plants" will be like!
7. 42-44This image of planting a dead seed and raising a
live plant is a mere sketch at best, but perhaps it will
help in approaching the mystery of the resurrection
body—but only if you keep in mind that when we're
raised, we're raised for good, alive forever! The corpse
that's planted is no beauty, but when it's raised, it's
glorious. Put in the ground weak, it comes up
powerful. The seed sown is natural; the seed grown is
supernatural—same seed, same body, but what a
difference from when it goes down in physical
mortality to when it is raised up in spiritual
immortality!
8. Resurrection of the body.
• For those who suffer physically or are in some
way disabled, this is truly joyful news.
9. And the Life Everlasting
•Then I saw a new heaven and a
new earth..And I heard a loud
voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the dwelling place of God
is with man. He will dwell with
them, and they will be his people,
and God himself will be with them
as their God”...the Lord God will
be their light, and they will reign
forever and ever.
10. Life Everlasting
• Not JUST everlasting life (demons and those
who are not in Christ get that too) but eternal
joy and peace and fellowship with Jesus.
11. Life Everlasting
• What will it be like? What will we do?
– Worship, praise, live in fellowship with Christ and the host
of heaven.
– Beyond that, we really don’t know.
• What we do know is that those who enter heaven will
not want for anything.
– All our heart’s desires will be fulfilled. There will be NO felt
needs or longings.
– What we will actually want once we get there is hard to say.
12. Review
• Will we have “bodies” in heaven? Explain
• The gift of eternity is more than just eternity.
Explain.
