2. Hook Sentence grabs the reader’s attention or
gets them thinking about a question.
The introductory paragraph should also include
the thesis statement, a position you are taking.
This paragraph is where the writer grabs the
reader's attention. It tells the reader what the
paper is about.
The last sentence of this paragraph must also
include a transitional "hook" which moves the
reader to the first paragraph of the body of the
essay.
3. You can use a hook in question form. This is one of the
easiest ways to draw a reader’s attention to look at an
essay’s contents.
With a good question, you will stir the mind of the
reader and probably he will be curious to find the
answer to the given question.
Make the question very personal so that he will think
there is a need for him to look for the right answer to
satisfy his thirst for information. This way, you can
force the reader to read your essay as a possible
source of the answer.
4. A good quote is also a possible form of essay hook. A
quote coming from a famous person will have certain
weight.
It will be able to attract readers and see the
underlying translation of the particular quote. For
example, you can use any of the past president’s
quotes in a public speaking engagement.
Since the person is a famous one, the audience will
have not second thoughts in looking for the
supporting details of the quote. This will then lead to
reading the contents of the essay.
