SEgO your own way…
Tailoring your SEO strategy to your own market :
France as a case study

    • The link earning model in practise
Links (the bane of my Seo Life)

                      PROBLEM

• Normal/UK tactics don’t work- unless you like rubbish
  links.
• French Seo Gurus don’t seem to mind using shady
  techniques to get links :

Links (the bane of my Seo Life)

Link earning : Who do I actually want to earn links from ?
What would make me link to link me if I wasn’t me? What is natural in
your market?

                    Solution #1

                         Clients !
Client Links
                                     Pros
• You can be incredibly open with them and say straight up that its for a link back to
  our site .

• Generally they provide you with an article/pictures/info/history , anything you
  want to have.

• Its free

• It’s the best kind of natural link you can get / they spread it around their social
network and everyone is happy .

• You establish a non-commercial relationship with them that they appreciate
because it seems like you are looking after them .
Client Links
                                   Cons
• French people like to spend ages doing everything (eg : lunch).

• Their incredibly backward bureaucracy system means that everything has to be
  signed off by everyone

• Most of them don’t manage their own websites so you have to wait a month or
two for them to get the webmasters to get your link up .

• Sometimes you have to write the article yourself (eg :500 words on plastic coffee
  stirrer distributor)
Although the cons are longer. The pros definitely
                 outweigh the cons.
Links (the bane of my Seo Life)

                     Solution #2
Link earning : Who do I actually want to earn links from ? What
would make me link to link me if I wasn’t me? What is natural in your
market?

      Give people what they
              want!
Giving people what they want Links

    Eg 1 : Xavier Foucauld
• This method establishes a friendly relationship
• That you can then use for outreach (positive impression
because you’ve tried to help them )

                    Solution #3

                   Be an Expert
1. Forums :

• Eg : http://forum.netpme.fr/1-creation-entreprise/62256-re-
  resilier-contrat-machine-a-affranchir/105004#msg-105004

2. Relevant websites:

• Eg : http://www.greenetvert.fr/experts

• Follow Experts : : http://www.scoop.it/t/mobilite-
  geolocalisation James Newton .
2. Social Media:

• Make sure you’re using the right platforms :

• Youtube vs Dailymotion - Viadeo vs Linked In

• Amazon vs Leboncoin .

• Scoopit / Daily good
• Takeaways :
• Earning links takes ages – you have to get creative. But it’s
worth it in the end .
• By all means follow the Gurus, learn from them, but instead of
copy pasting tactics that have worked for them, find out why
they work and then try and apply it to your target market to the
  same effect .
And ….
