(after WWII)
●

●
1945-1952 (occupied by US):
several reforms (including land reform which
helped small farmers to be independent)
●
-1970s: period for highly development
①Investment and improvement in technology
②Enough quality & quantity of labourers
③High consumption on TV, washing machine &
fridge (1960s)
6. 1. (cont) Rising Sun & Current Scenario
●
(cont)-1970s
*negative effect of development
①pollution which caused several diseases(e.g. asthma)
②workaholic
●
1985-1991: the period of 'Bubble' flourishment (Too
much investment on land and stock market--The prieces
extraordinarily went up--One day everything collapsed and the
prices dropped)
●
1991-now: in long stagnation
*2004 Neo-liberalism was introduced in labour law
(which allowed companies to hire more temporary workers)
*2011 Earthquake & Tsunami (Northeast religion)

8. 1. (Cont) Current Scenario
●
World's no.1 aging society
24.1% of Japanese population is above age 65 yrs (2012)
●
Increasing income gap b/w the rich and the poor (due
to neo-liberalism policies)
●
Unchanging politics
long-lasting rule by conservative party,
less interest among young people
●
Changing the idea of 'Family' (Too much individualism)
increasing no of nuclear family & one-person household
●
'Otaku culture' (among young people)
comics, animations & video games
10. 2. What about nuclear power..?
The number of working nuclear plants in Japan dramatically reduced
after the earthquake and tsunami (Only 2 plants working out of 50 in 2012).
As of now in May 2014, no nuclear plant is working in Japan.
11. 2. (Cont) Points over Nuclear power
●
Fear among majority people
●
Gap b/w government & people
●
Reality at present
[Can we survive without nuclear power now?]
-Safety is the priority to use nuclear power
-Necessity of nuclear power for the time being
(Because thermal power is costly and it also
contributes to global warming)
-Shift to Renewable resource energy
(However, it takes time to be used as alternative)
13. 3. Japani Shaadi -How we marry-
●
My grandparents generation
(around age 80-90s) : arranged
●
My parents generation (around 50-
60s): half-arranged, half-love
●
My generation (around 30s): love
However, these days it's difficult to
find partners among young people...
14. 3. (cont) Japani Shaadi -diversity-
●
Marriage function -basically not religious
①promising marriage to 'PEOPLE' those who
attend
②promising to Shinto Gods
●
Divorce -happens occasionally
year 2011: 23lakh of couple
(1.87person/ 1,000persons)
●
Unmarried mother -difficult, but possible
year 2010: 1.3lakh (of unmarried mother)
