Q.2 How effective is the combination
 of your main product and ancillary
               texts?
Our Front Cover
                  In the production of our front cover we decided
                  that we wanted it to be cheap and easily
                  accessible.

                  Its bright colours and dramatic images show that
                  its main purpose is to entertain rather than
                  inform.

                  The magazine is aimed at our target audience of
                  16-24 year olds, as the programs displayed on the
                  front, all appeal to this audience.

                  The tabs along the side show how the different
                  days are colour coordinated, making it easy to
                  navigate your way through the magazine.

                  As you can see we challenged one very important
                  convention by having the main cover star looking
                  at the reader, engaging them with the magazine.
Our Front Cover
                                                 Unique masthead in the top third of the
                                                 page, making the magazine clearly stand
                                                 out if it was placed in a shop or
                                                 supermarket.




                        We decided to change one of the ‘Z’s’ in the word buzz, by
                        slightly tilting the letter and making it look like an electric
                        shock.


 By doing this we created our own unique brand identity, making it
 easily recognisable by the audience.

                                                           •All characters looking at the
                                                           audience, engaging with
                                                           them and showing their
                                                           emotions.



We also clearly displayed the channel it is going to be
shown on and gave the audience a rough idea of when the
programme is going to be on. We did this by using the E4
style guide.

                                                   middle of Rhino and Mickey
                                                   shows who this conflict is
                                                   over.




                                               Slogan links with the main

        The genre is easily recognisable through the products because
        of the dramatic non-diegetic soundtrack, dramatic
        storylines, and over exaggerated props, make-up and emotions.

Institution- E4
Through conducting our research in to similar existing products we began to realise that
these programs were aimed at a similar audience. We also realised that the way they are
filmed and how the characters are portrayed is what we wanted to do.


We therefore decided to go with the institution of E4, as this channel was appealing to our
target audience of 16-24 year olds and aired similar products to what we wanted to
create e.g. Hollyoaks and Ugly Betty.


In creating our ancillary texts we used the E4 style guide on the internet, to create our
logos and title cards. This made ensured that we were following the conventions of the
present E4 advertising .
