Thank you so much for your interest in our Big Sleep Out event. Enclosed in this resource
pack are some guidelines, general information about the event, registration and
Nightstop Devon
sponsorship forms.
The Sleep Out will take place from 7pm until 7am on Friday 1st October 2010 at the
UFC Southernhay Church, Dix’s Field, Exeter, Devon EX1 1QA. The event has been
organised to raise much needed funds for Nightstop Devon, but to also raise awareness
of youth homelessness in Devon. The funds will go towards the expansion of Nightstop
Devon into more rural parts of Devon, but also to strengthen our Crashpad service, by
being able to recruit and train new hosts for this. (Crashpad offers longer 2 week place-

Please feel free to photocopy and prominently display the enclosed flyer and poster, or
pass it on to someone who can publicise the event. We are really excited about the night,
so thank you so much for showing an interest, and we hope you can join us.
Pre-registration is essential for the event, so that we can risk assess and know roughly
how many people to anticipate. There will obviously be a limit on numbers, and so it is on
a first come, first serve basis. This will enable us to manage the event safely and

This Resource pack is designed to give you an idea of what the sleep in/out event is all about,
should you choose to participate.
Nightstop Devon
Big SleepOut Exeter 2010
This event has been organised to raise valuable funds for Nightstop Devon, but to also raise
awareness around youth homelessness in Devon. We hope the event will be a great community
project that will bring together many different agencies in the area, as well as various groups of
young people. It will involve a night sleeping rough within a secure venue, but under the stars.
The event is due to take place at:
Southernhay United Reformed Church, Dix's Field, EXETER EX1 1QA
It will involve sleeping outside with minimal protection from the winter weather. There will also be
the option for a ‘sleep in’ option within the community hall for those that do not want to sleep
braving the elements.

Date and Time
Nightstop Devon
The Sleep Out will start at 7pm on Friday 1st October, until 7am the following morning.
You may leave the site at any point, but we would appreciate it if you could try and stay
on the site all night.
There will be an official welcome and introduction at 8pm.
Facilities
Toilets facilities will be available throughout the night. Hot drinks and limited food will
also be available, but it is recommended that you bring snacks with you just in case.
Registration
There will be a registration point that will be open from 7pm until 10pm. On arrival at the
site please hand in your registration form at the desk to ensure that we are aware of
numbers on site. You can also pre-register by emailing:

THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE TO PRE REGISTER WILL WIN A FREE SURVIVAL BAG TO SLEEP IN.
You must ensure that you pre-register and give contact information what we can use in
case of an emergency.
Preparation
Please remember that we will be sleeping outside during the night in October and that
the weather will be very cold, so ensure that you come prepared physically and mentally.
Use the checklist below as a guide to what you will need to bring with you in order to
protect you from the worst of our winter weather. Your clothing should be warm and wa-
terproof- several thin layers of clothing are better than just one thick layer. A woolly hat,
warm footwear, gloves, and a sleeping bag are a must.
We aim to provide everybody with a cardboard box.
Time for Bed
Please take into consideration local residents, anyone disturbing other sleepers will be
asked to leave.
Handy Hints:
Poundland is brilliant for things like plastic groundsheets, but they also sell emergency
shelters for a quid!
