More than Just Lines on a Map: Best Practices for U.S Bike Routes
Keep windows healthy
1. Keep Windows Healthy
Though I still don’t understand why Mr. Gates had to post like that.
If you’re a Windows user, no doubt you find it very useful. Like you, millions of other laptop
users rely on Windows to get them through the day, be it for Internet purposes, gaming or just
casual stuff.
But not only is keeping Windows healthy important for you, but for others as well. If you’re
going tosell your laptop in the future, you better keep that software healthy. It’s crucial
because if you sell your laptop with a buggy Windows system, it’s going to be sent back to you.
So how exactly do you take care of Windows? Well, there are things you can do like:
Clean the Registry
You’ve probably seen offers on the Internet to download a registry cleaner. What does it mean
anyway?
Well, according to www.registrywindows.com, here’s what it does:
“The Windows Registry is a central database containing all the varied assortment of information
needed for the computer to run both the hardware and the software. The Registry is in
constant use and almost anything that you do on a Windows PC will access the Registry for
information.”
2. Since the Registry is in constant use, it’s one of the most important things you need to take care
of. Common sense dictates that when something is in constant use, it is bound to fail sooner or
later, so it’s up to you to maintain it and keep your computer running fast.
By getting a registry cleaner, the registry becomes void of misplaced data that accumulates
while you use the computer. Think of it as defragmenting, except you do it on the Registry, not
on your hard drive.
Speaking of which…
Defragment Your Drives
You’ve also probably been told to defragment your drives at regular intervals, such as monthly.
What does defragmenting your hard drive even do anyway?
Well, before you defragment, you should know why it fragments. According to eHow.com,
“Fragmentation happens when your computer saves information in small bits across the hard
drive that are not necessarily together or close to each other. When it recalls this data, it must
search several places, taking up time and energy; it also causes slowdowns in program and
operating system functions.”
So what does this mean? When you defragment, you’re basically increasing the efficiency level
of your hard drive.
The main benefits you get are faster loading applications, longer – lasting hard drives and fewer
chances of data being corrupted.
Update Antivirus Software
Last but not the least; you should constantly update your antivirus software to protect your
computer from any online harm.
You never know it, but your computer could already be exposed from the sites you visit.
As always, don’t click on anything that looks suspicious, such as emails and advertisements.
3. Conclusion
Keeping Windows healthy is something that you should keep in mind every once in a while to
keep things running smoothly.
If you follow these tips regularly, you can go for a year without even having to reformat your
computer! The only time you’ll probably reinstall Windows is when something goes horribly
wrong.
If by chance, your Windows (and perhaps your PC or laptop) is beyond repair and there’s
nothing you can do, perhaps you should now sell it at Cashforlaptops.com where I work. Not
only will you get something in return but you are doing yourself a favor by helping reduce tech
waste.
