2. What is Sustainability?
• Sustainability is a word that means the ability to
be sustained or to endure. If the environment in a
certain area, or even as a whole, is sustainable, it
must be able to thrive. Environmental
sustainability takes into account the people living
within an environment and their capacity to
survive as a species within that environment.
3. Why is Sustainable Living important?
• Sustainable living is import
because what we do today
easily affect the future gen
for the better or the worst
Resources are becoming h
get and in only a few deca
may have to switch to ano
source, hopefully a reusab
source such as solar energ
wind energy which we can
faithfully.

Discovery CentreSustainable Living in Wentworth Point:
Discovery Centre
• The Discovery Centre is supposed to be a family friendly
area where people can admire and learn about our planet.
In Wentworth Point’s Discovery Centre, you will be able to
find many trees for natural shade and creating a fresh
sensation. A solar powered water heater has been
installed as an efficient and green way of warming the
water within the facility. A chicken coop attracts attention
from children which is a great opportunity to teach them a
chicken’s purpose. Chickens create manure and fresh eggs.
To top things off a vegetable patch has been placed as it
saves you from emitting green house gases on your way to
the grocery shop and fun to grow yourself!
5. Sustainable Living in Wentworth Point:
Information Centre
• To ensure that the message of sustainability is
not only in the Discovery Centre, the
Information Centre’s design has included
objects such as solar panels as a alternative
energy source, a solar powered hot water tank
for facilities inside again another reusable
source of energy and of course trees to keep
our air fresh.
6. Sustainable Living in Wentworth:
Community Hall
The Community Hall has many visitors as regular
activities take place so it should be a good
influence on children and adults to take part in a
greener planet. Solar panels and a solar
powered hot water system. There are many
windows to prevent as much as possible turning
on lights as natural light can filter thoghout the
building.
7. Get Involved, Help Planet Earth
Turn off lights when you don’t need them, let natural light filter in!
Turn off the heater this winter, snuggle up with a blanket or two
Switch your regular light bulbs to LED ones. They last longer and
give off more light and are energy efficient
Return your organic waste to where you found it, the soil! Banana
peels, grass clippings etc
Plant trees in your garden or community, it gives a nice welcoming
feel and creates a fresher sense of home
Use solar energy to dry your clothes. It doesn’t cost a cent! Put your
clothes outside and let them dry.
Use public transport. Though a bus uses a lot of fuel, it carries many
people at once and it is an exciting alternative
