2. The value and methods of boxing
depends on four basic punching
techniques. These techniques are Jab,
Cross, Hook, and Uppercut. Boxers use
these punching methods in a
combination to defeat their opponent.
3. Left
Jab
Jab is the first of the punching techniques in boxing. To deliver a left jab, one
must stand in a proper stance with both hands guarding the face. Then they
should throw their left hand with a little twist of the body. The left hand should
be straight and the palm must face the floor.
4. Straight right
or right cross
Cross is a little different from the Jab. To convey a right-hand-cross,
the fighter should throw his/her right hand forward in a straight
line. With the throw, the hip should rotate forward, giving the
fighter an extended opportunity to attack.
5. Left Hook
In order to deliver a hook with the left arm, the fighter must shift the body
weight to the right foot. The left arm must be positioned in 90-degree
angle with the palm facing the floor. Elbow and the shoulder should remain
parallel to one another, until the feat is delivered.
6. Right
Hook
Using hook punching technique with the right hand is similar to the left hook
technique. The body weight must be shifted from the right foot to left. The
right arm should be in such a position, where the arm is positioned in a 90-
degree angle with palm in front of the floor.
7. Left uppercut
To perform the left uppercut punching method, the boxer should reduce
his/her centre of gravity by lowering the left shoulder. Raising the left
punch aiming at the opponent’s diaphragm is the next move. The left hip
should rotate forward to obtain better chance of delivering a clean
punch.
8. Right Uppercut
To execute the uppercut technique with the right hand, one must lower the
right shoulder at first. Then raise the right hand targeting the opponent’s
chin or diaphragm. Rotating the right hip forward will give the fighter an
exact position to execute the blow.
