• Founded on 7 May 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and
  Akio Morita
• Headquarters is in Minato, Tokyo
• Ranked 87th on Fortune Global 500 of 2012

• Sony’s business focus on electronic, game,
  entertainment and financial service
• The total of employees is 162,700 in 2012
• Revenue in 2012 is 6.385 trillion dollar

3. The problems of Sony
• In the late 2008, Sony had big trouble: the
  company loss of 98.9 billion Yen
• The annual sales going down by 12.9%
• The company was effected by global
  consumer electronic industry of competition

4. Strategies
• To resolve the problems, Sony is implementing
  some transformation
      – Hardware products (TV, game devices) are main
        profitability businesses
      – Integrating user experiences into products
      – Expanding customer and geographic markets
      – Increasing environmentally products

5. Targets
• Revenue 300 billion Yen from Internet services
  by the end of fiscal year 2013
• Install 350 million units of Sony’s lineup of
  network-connected products
• Revenue from 3D-related products is more
  than 1 billion Yen
• 30% reduction in greenhouse gas and power
  consumption per product

6. Challenges
• To obtain these above targets, Sony has much
  challenges such as:
      – The competition from another companies
      – Depression of Japan economic as well as global
        economic
      – Need innovation in technology

• Sony has much challenges to reform its
  business
• But, the reformation also bring many chances
  to increase the profitability from new
  industries
