2. PROGRAM The Manhattan Marketplace is looking to add an enjoyable place to go and hang out. This takes form in the shape of a coffee shop; coffee shops are excellent places to meet with friends and talk. The Manhattan Marketplace Coffee Shop would need to attract a wide variety of customers, from college students to seniors. Its location is situated in a strip mall between Petco and Bed, Bath, and Beyond, in the corner section. This allows for us of three extra windows for some excellent views and a chance to have outdoor seating. The overall design of the exterior space needs to remain its current design to keep a sense of unity with the rest of the buildings.
3. CONCEPT Started with the history of coffee houses, and discovered that they all had an element in common; a linear table. This is where people would gather to socialize and catch up on gossip. Keeping with that same ‘linear’ idea I looked at the shape of the space and noticed it was very linear. The coffee shop itself becomes that linear element where people meet to socialize and gossip.
