1. LIFE BEGINS
AT SIXTY
I began my Arbonne journey in March of 2008 — later in life than most.
Having retired from 39 years of teaching as a special needs coordinator,
I was looking forward to being a lady of leisure. So when I started my
business, I was delighted I could fit Arbonne into my new lifestyle.
Initially, I wasn’t looking for anything when I was introduced to Arbonne
by my son, NVP Iain Pritchard and his partner, ENVP Gordon Fraser. Iain
told me Arbonne had launched in the UK and that ENVP Sue Cassidy
was coming over to see us. My husband Jim and I went and listened, very
sceptically with arms folded, as British people do. I was intrigued by what
Sue said, but thought it was not for me. However, what she said had a
huge impact on me, although I didn’t realise it at the time. We bought the
products because we loved the philosophy of Arbonne’s pure, safe and
beneficial brand, and very quickly I started seeing results.
At this time, we discovered that Jim had chronic Leukaemia. We also had a
recession in the world, which affected our investments and pensions, and
this got us thinking about our future. Then we realised there was a business
opportunity here that provided great income potential and the opportunity
to earn “right-now” money.
Jim, also an Arbonne Independent Consultant, was retired but working part-
time, and had people to talk to. As some of the oldest “Baby Boomers,” we
knew health and well-being was important to us. We wanted to feel and
look younger, so why not include Arbonne in our lives?
We went to the UK NTC in September of 2008. I was inspired by what
I learnt — it upped the business in my mind. I met some fabulous people
— one of the best things about Arbonne is the friendships. Business was
slow at first. I experienced a lot of negativity. I got upset when a close
friend said she wanted nothing to do with it. What hurt most was that
she didn’t trust my judgment.
In April of 2009, I went as a DM to the U.S. NTC in Las Vegas, which
changed my whole perception and outlook on Arbonne. The speakers were
truly inspirational and I learnt so much about this amazing company. I learnt
the business is simple, word-of-mouth referral. I just had to tell people what
I did and why. I also learnt to listen. As they say, we have one mouth and
two ears. I knew what I had to offer. I got home and took my business to
another level. The hardest thing was stepping out of my comfort zone. I knew
I had to do this to succeed. I got into activity, changed my approach with
people, and read and educated myself more. I did it because I believed.
I believed in the products and the business, but mostly I believed in me.
With the help of my team, I went from DM to Region in four months. The
feeling I had driving that white Mercedes-Benz which I had earned was

success strategy:
incredible. I wanted that for everyone. Helping others succeed is also what
I love about this business.
Whilst in Vegas, we stayed in the New York, New York Hotel and a roller
coaster passed our room all day, and again at the UK NTC in Blackpool.
It reminded me that Arbonne is like a roller coaster with its ups and downs.
Once I accepted that there would be downs and chose to move on, the
ups made it all worthwhile. I realised that the only way to fail at this busi-
ness is not to do it or to quit. I loved my job as a teacher, but I love this
even more. What an amazing opportunity this is. I am my own boss, I
choose with whom I work and when, I don’t have an alarm clock, and I
take holidays when I want.
In Vegas, I loved listening to President Rita Davenport — what an inspi-
rational and caring person she is, phoning me when I received my car. I
felt extremely humbled and privileged when people from America came
to my Mercedes-Benz Car Presentation. I ended my speech — which a
year before I could never have given — with a pointer for each letter of
the word Arbonne. Once a teacher, always a teacher!
Activity: Getting into massive activity changes things.
Recommendation: Talk to people, being the word-of-mouth referral.
Belief: Believe in the products, the business and yourself. Without belief,
you are not convincing.
Organisation: Organise your life, your diary and your appointments.
Planning is key.
Negativity: Learn how to turn negatives into positives.
No: Learn that “no” is not always no forever. Sometimes it is just “not now.”
Enjoyment: Have fun! I’ve met so many friendly, fabulous people and I get
paid for doing this.
My thanks goes to my rock — my husband, DM Jim Pritchard — for his
constant love and support. To my wonderful son and sponsor, NVP Iain
Pritchard, who gave me the vision and confidence, painted the big picture
and encouraged me throughout my journey, always believing I would do
it. You are a truly inspirational leader. To ENVP Gordon Fraser, another

fantastic leader. To ENVP Caroline McFarlan, a fabulous lady, friend and
role model. To our upline in America, the awesome ENVP Sue Cassidy,
without whose vision none of this would be happening. To ENVPs Aldis
Loreno and Sheila Greene (a fellow teacher) who also provided great
inspiration. Thank you to AMs Roz Daley, Rachael Stapleton, Claire Shaw,
Sam Shaw and Cathi Dillon, and DM Ann Powell, as well as my other
directs, for believing in me — you are all brilliant.
To all my downline, crossline and the corporate staff, too numerous to men-
tion: I thank you for the friendships, fun and support. I thank my other son and
his wife, Alistair and Laura, for their support — I know they love the products.
As my business has grown, so have I as a person. Everybody can do this.
