  2. 2. The Olympic Games of 2008 were in Beijing, capital ofthe Republic of China, from 8 to 24 August 2008. After itsconclusion, were the 13th Paralympics Games, whichbegan on 6 September. The Olympic Games reached acost which exceeded 44,000 billion of dollars. Thesporting event was attended by 302 events in 28 sportsinvolving a few 10,902 athletes from 204 NationalOlympic committees.

The Beijing National Stadium was inaugurating 28 June2008 and the architects are Herzog and de Meuron.The stadium is commonly known as “birds nest”, due toits exterior steel net.The stadium measures: 330 m long 220 m wide 69 m highIt is equipped with a system of solar energy andcollection of rainwater for irrigation and cleaning. It hasthe capacity of 91,000 spectators.
  4. 4. The 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony began at 8:00pm China Standard Time on 08/08/2008. The artistic part ofthe ceremony comprised two parts titled "BrilliantCivilization" and "Glorious Era" respectively.   5. 5. CLOSING CEREMONYThe 2008 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony concludedthe Beijing Games on 24 August 2008. It began at 8:00 pmand took place at the National Stadium of Beijing.The Ceremony included the handover of the Games fromBeijing to London. Guo Jinlong, the Mayor of Beijinghanded over the Olympic flag to the Mayor of London BorisJohnson, followed by a performance. This presentationincluded performances by guitarist Jimmy Page, andrecording artist Leona Lewis.

  8. 8. Michael Fred Phelps II born on 30 June1985, is a retired American swimmer andthe most decorated Olympian of all time,with a total of 22 medals. Phelps alsoholds the all-time records for Olympicgold medals (18), Olympic gold medals inindividual events (11), and Olympicmedals in individual events for a male(13). In winning eight gold medals at the2008 Beijing Games, Phelps took therecord for the most first-place finishes atany single Olympic Games.
  9. 9. Usain St. Leo Bolt born on 21 August 1986,is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded asthe fastest person ever. He is the firstman to hold both the 100 metres and200 metres world records since fullyautomatic time measurements becamemandatory in 1977. Along with histeammates, he also set the world recordin the 4×100 metres relay.In the Olympic Games of Beijing in 100 mfinal, Bolt broke new ground, winning in9.69 s with a reaction time of 0.165 s.
