3. Slavery is not a comfortable topic
Doulos – although most often translated “servant,” doulos means a slave
in its strictest sense. Some translations use the term – bondservant,
which means that one who is owned by another.
In New Testament times when as much as a third of the population were
or had been slaves, they understood the language of lords and slaves.
4. Luk 6:46-49 ESV "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I
tell you? (47) Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does
them, I will show you what he is like: (48) he is like a man building a
house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a
flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it,
because it had been well built. (49) But the one who hears and does not
do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a
foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the
ruin of that house was great."
1. To call Christ Lord, we must hear and do his words.
2. To dig deep we must obey the LORD.
5. Mat 7:21-23 ESV "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will
enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father
who is in heaven. (22) On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord,
did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name,
and do many mighty works in your name?' (23) And then will I declare
to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
1. To call Christ Lord, we must hear and do his words.
2. To dig deep we must obey the LORD.
3. To go to heaven our LORD must not be in name only.
6. Principles of Lordship
Luk 7:8 ESV For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under
me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he
comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
Mat 10:24 ESV "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above
his master.
Mat 24:46 ESV Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so
doing when he comes.
7. Principles of Servant-hood
Joh 13:16 ESV Truly, truly, I say to you, a
servant is not greater than his master, nor is a
messenger greater than the one who sent him.
1Co 7:23 ESV You were bought with a price;
do not become slaves of men.
1Jn 2:5-6 ESV but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God
is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: (6) whoever says
he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
Rom 6:16-17 ESV Do you not know that if you present yourselves to
anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey,
either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to
righteousness? (17) But thanks be to God, that you who were once
slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of
teaching to which you were committed,

9. Only 1 Lord of Lords
Mat 28:18-20 ESV And Jesus came and said to
them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. (19) Go therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you. And behold, I am with you
always, to the end of the age."
Mar 16:15-16 ESV And he said to them, "Go into
all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole
creation. (16) Whoever believes and is baptized
will be saved, but whoever does not believe will
be condemned.
