    3. How do sports bring people together? Learn teamwork and tolerance Work with people that are “different” from you. 36,000 people join together at Fenway Park every game to root for their favorite team. Charities: Example Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund.
    4. Do youth sports decrease the rate of violence among young people? YES! Places like MetroLacrosse in Dorchester, MA give community youth members the opportunity to participate in sports and character education. Sports provide a safe environment for kids to be as opposed to hanging around dangerous streets/people. Sports give youth something to strive for and a reason to be proud of themselves.
    5. Why is “mental game” important? Keeps you focused-You can’t let bad calls etc get you down. Need to visualize your game Need to be able to recognize what you are doing well and not well. Need to be aware of others and able to communicate with them. Thanks to Adam Naylor, Sports Psychologist at BU Center for Athletic Enhancement
    6. How do student athletes effect the community? Community service: Sports teams often participate in service opportunities as a team. Gives community members a fun and exciting event to attend (Go Huskies!)
    7. How do sports improve a communities’ health? Decreases the number of overweight and obese people, thus decreasing rates of many diseases/illnesses Physical activity produces endorphins—they make you happy 
    8. How do sports effect the economy? Athletic programs bring in large amounts of money to colleges/universities Health clubs/gyms/personal training programs create many jobs. Jobs at major sporting venues (Fenway Park, TD BankNorth Garden etc) Sporting good stores (souvenir shops) bring money and jobs.
    9. But what are the negatives? Riots after major sporting events Injuries Many believe that too much money is spent on athletic programs and should go towards academics.

    12. What should I do to better prepare for my sport/activity? Balance/stretching activies
