Made in the very last hour on a rainy train journey on 3rd Aug,14 between Karwar and Kochi, this is a light hearted nostalgic take on AFMC. Initially played at the AFMC Alumni Bash at Eagles & Birdies,Kochi in 2014,it has since been played from LEH to Tenga and from Jodhpur to Chennai.
Feel free to download and take fellow AFMCites on a trip down memory lane. And acknowledge the creators, maybe.
20. Vanar Wadi
1860
Yes…
It was once
an abode of
monkeys…
If the present
Profs at
AFMC are to
be
believed,the
monkeys still
romp
around,albeit
in uniform
21. I bet the one who
introduced parade
for med cadets
never envisioned
the notoriety
coming his way…
Last heard,cadets
were still
scrambling for his
head..
22. Mandatory Nostalgia Q.
• This stalwart had the rare honour of being
the only Non-Fouji Warden of Boys Hostel
who once got ‘accidentally’ locked up in
the loo.
• A fanatically academic oriented man he
was popularly known by an acronym
which is same as the Station code for
Babina. His original name please.
48. Strictness personified
• A housekeeper for the GH, she washed
and ironed clothes for the inhabitants.
However she was best known for
sounding the alarm at 10 pm with a call of
“Chalo chalo bahut ho gaya, time ho gaya,
bas karo”, thus putting an end to the
amorous activities for the day. To what
name did this ‘kabab me haddi’ answer?
57. • And Just in case you thought AFMC’s
acheivements were restricted only to the
medical field, here’s proof to the contrary…
• I’m sure there are many more but I’ve
included the two most recent examples
here
58. Ambika Nautiyal(T2) became the first lady and the first doctor ever to lead
the Naval contingent at the Republic Day Parade…
A proud moment for all AFMCites
59. Satyanshu Singh(P2),now into filmmaking post his MBBS,struck gold with his
first short film winning the National Film Award for Best Short Film…At last
count,it had won more than 10 awards across countries and Film Festivals..
**The movie was screened earlier in the day at the Dhanvantari
Auditorium,AFMC**
63. Also a type of hat
• Which character from a du Maurier
book lends its name to this
grapevine establishment of AFMC
based in the 5 th Block of Old Boys
Hostel . X is tone-deaf: "Svengali
would test her ear, as he called it,
and strike the C in the middle and
then the F just above, and ask
which was the highest; and she
would declare they were both
exactly the same."
68. • This gentleman owned a
restaurant named ‘Silver
Bowl’ at Dapodi.
• He was known to AFMCites
for providing gastro delights
late into the night.
• Identify this dude who was
lovingly named after a
notorious Bollywood villian of
the late 70’s.
…and worse. Ragging was more fun when you knew that big brother was watching…
Its a journey that began one and a half centuries ago, when the British occupied a little village infested with monkeys. The village was called Vanar Wadi
These barracks housed several European regiments such as the 68th Regiment of Foot of the Durham Light Infantry…
This was what the interiors looked like…a far cry from the pathology practical hall of today
1942..six years before the AFMC post graduate wing came into being
…And then the day arrived when it was there in stone and mortar…
We wonder if he knew, that he was shaking hands with the pioneers who sculpted the ethos of one of the most glorious institutions on earth
Boxer lead the pack, way back in the 70s
Our college didn't stop there…a new auditorium was constructed, though the old-timers who preferred little Birdy Audi would agree that it was acoustically challenged, merging beautifully with the tri-radiate lecture hall complex for those who were intellectually challenged
50 years after PG wing was started, the Golden Jubilee block was inaugurated in 1998
The Ashok Chakra Library was constructed in the memory of Maj L J Singh, who died fighting terrorists in Afghanistan.
The gastronomic delights of A B C and D messes became history. A threateningly modern and hygienic mess replaced the messes we were accustomed to. We missed the cockroaches who started by sharing our dal and later became a flavoring agent in the dal.
Tho kabhi raste pe goondagardi karne nikal jaate the…don’t forget, we would strike at will..
The true history of AFMC is the history of rebellion even if it was against a hike of 10 Rs in the mess bill. Freedom fighters lurked in the pages often written in toilets. This letter was written by a bankrupt soul fighting for freedom against fines..It says..’Last time we had Rs 10 added to the mess bill, must have totaled about RS 5000 for damages less than Rs 500
Or just caught up on romance, chilling out in Empress gardens.
Remember those visits to the rural areas? For the guys and girls, they didn’t prevent social medicine at all…PSM was not a subject to be studied…it was a way of life
Oh, THOSE games, which half clad men played with balls..
Some called it basketball, in reality it was World War III.
Singing about nothing
And others by night. Only the content varied
…Some read by day
Gradually the indiscipline got worse…
But Tom Jones broke all records. He attended every party, parade, late night video shows and, worse, had a 100 per cent attendance in Pharmacology.
Stealing was an integral part of our life. On the 24th of July 1975, the Dean’s Office Board was removed by Ashok Shroff and Vikram Pathak. After 40 years, it was finally returned by post in silver foil from Seattle. In AFMC, it is never late to repent.
At the end of the day, we think we are back where we belong
