2. ◘ The BNP was founded as a
democratic party.It was
established on September 1,1978.
Ziaur Rahman is the founder of
bnp.
The BNP has been led
by Khaleda Zia since 1983.Her
son Tarique Rahman currently
serving as its Senior Vice-
Chairperson.
3. ♦ It has ruled Bangladesh for a total of 14 years and three
terms since its birth .
1978–1982, 1991–1996, 2001–2006
• In the Bangladesh General Election 1991 the party had won
140 seats. Begum Khaleda Zia was sworn in as the first
woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
•In the election of 2001 BNP won 193 seats and came to power
for the fourth time. Khaleda Zia had become Prime Minister
for the third time.
4. Principles :
BNP was the goal of economic development, democratization,
Bangladeshi nationalism and national unity on the basis of self-reliance
among the people was to emerge. He also announced his 19-
point on the basis of these. The foundation of the political party which
