1. Primary and secondary research methods
Primary research methods
Dylan Lindsay
Introduction
In this primary and secondary research methods sheet I will telling you about what primary
research is, how it is used and when it could be used. Same with the secondary research
method. Also in will give you one advantage and one disadvantage of each research
methods. Then I will finish with a conclusion.
Name of research method
Survey
Interview
Explanation
A survey is when you have tablecollecting
information from a question from previously
asked. One advantage of using a survey is
that you will get lots of information from
different people making things a little easier.
One Disadvantage is that it is easy for the
people you asked to lie. This will make your
survey dishonest and non-accurate.
An interview is a conversation between two
or more people where questions are asked
by the interviewer to collect facts or
statements from the interviewee. Interviews
are a very basic data gathering method. One
advantage is that it is a quick way of getting
other peoples opinion on certain things. One
disadvantage is that if you fail to record the
interview, you may forget all the information
you just got. An interview would be very
useful when trying to get information on
something that just happened; the
information could be good enough to get
into your media production. If it’s irrelevant.
2. Secondary Research methods
Name of research method
The internet
Reading books
Searching archive
Explanation
Using the internet can be useful for seeing
other people’s production to get an idea of
what to do for your own production. One
advantage of using the internet is that you
can get any information very fast; you can
also download papers of the internet to see
information that would normally be in
booklets.
Using books can be used to find information
that has been previously published by
professionals. One advantage is that there
are plenty of books with lots of information
in them. One disadvantage is that can use up
a lot of time making it hard to get things
done quick and easy.
Using archives can be used to find old
information in other peoples media
productions, to get an idea for your own
media production. One advantage is that it’s
good to get historical information but then
again one disadvantage of that is that the
information could be outdated.
