institutions like IITs, IIMs, the All India Institute
of Medical Sciences; etc.

10. One of the reasons for the phenomenal success of
the IITs and the IIMs was the assistance they got
from reputed foreign universities.

11. • United States get $16 billion dollars through
education.
• Australia, Singapore, United Kingdom and other
advanced countries earn huge sum in the
education sector. Education is the second largest
foreign exchange earner in these countries.
• On the contrary India sends 1,60,000 students
every year to United States and attracts only 9000
students from all over the world

12. The recent London Times Higher Education Supplement
ranking of the world's top 200 universities included :
• three in China,
• three in Hong Kong,
• three in South Korea,
• one in Taiwan,
• and one in India (Indian Institute of Technology)

13. China is providing access to large numbers of students
at the bottom of the academic system while at the same
time building some research-based universities that are
able to compete with the world's best institutions.
China in particular is heavily investing in improving its
best universities with the aim of making a small group of
them world class in the coming decade, and building
them as internationally competitive research universities.13
14. INTEREST OF FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES IN INDIA
Nearly 50 proposals from foreign universities
including:
are expected to be waiting for the Government’s clearance.14
15. HBS is keen to find permanent premises for its executive
education programs instead of conducting classes at five-
star hotels in prominent Indian cities.
