2. I kept to ages 16 and 17 as my music
magazine is aimed at the younger
generation, and may be more relevant
to these specific ages.
I also asked a near equal amount of boys
and girls (12 female and 8 male) in order
for my questionnaire results to be
accurate and fair, as some boys and girls
share specific tastes and fashion.

3. The second question I asked was out of
these four genre’s which is your most
preferred one, in order to get a sense of
what my target market wants.
Out of these the most popular was
‘Punk/Mod/Rock’ which I will use as the
mix of genre’s to go forward with in my
magazine, as the majority of people
selected it, and as I want to provide my
target market with the most popular
outcome.

4. The next question was an open question as I
wanted to find out what people aged 16 and
17 are currently listening to, to get a feel of
what artists and bands are most popular at the
moment.
The answers I received were:

Although I have got a sense of what
everyone likes, open questions are harder to
present in a chart as a majority of people
answered with different artist/bands but the
most popular acts were Lady Gaga and
Nirvana, which may be something worth
featuring in my music magazine as they have
come out as the two most popular.
5. The fourth question I asked was ‘Preferred name
for magazine’, so I can discover out of these four
names which my target market feel is the most
ideal name for my magazine, as the name is
known to make an impact on the reader as it sets
the overall theme and mood of the magazine,
and also summarizes what it will entail.

As a majority of people buy a magazine
depending on the features and what’s
inside the magazine, I wanted to find out
what features would be most popular. The
outcome was obvious and as Artist/Bands
interviews will be most popular, this will
always be a regular feature within the
magazine and the most important.

Do you currently read any music
magazines?
As I wanted to see whether my target market
actually, currently read any music magazines I
listed 3 well –known magazines but also added on
the end, ‘none’ as these three magazines are all
related as they are categorized into similar genres
so for the people who aren't a fan of rock/indie
type music, they can select the ‘none’ box.
Looking at my results ‘none’ was the most popular
which is a problem as if the majority of my current
target market, don’t even read music magazines, it
will make it harder to attract readers.
But as NME was the most popular, I may use this
magazine as inspiration.

Price of Magazine
Price is another important factor as it
determines whether your target market will
buy your magazine so you need to get the
price just right. But it’s hard to conclude as
the people I asked chose the price depending
on the publication of the magazine, so for
example the more expensive side of £3.10
would be for a monthly magazine whereas
the £2.10 would be for a weekly magazine.

As you can clearly see, monthly was the
most popular so I have then decided to
have a monthly magazine priced at £2.70,
as that was also the most desirable price.

Lastly my final question was regarding my
magazine title font which is another
important factor to my magazine as it
determines the overall look and style.
Circus a patterned, bold font was the most
popular but as they are all very different
fonts, I may choose my font which is best
suited for the front cover image, but I will
also but these results into consideration.
