Session Econocom-Osiatis: Avec la révolution digitale et les nouveaux usages introduits par les smartphones, les tablettes et maintenant les objets connectés, l’expérience utilisateur (UX) est passée du stade de pratique émergente à pratique reconnue et nécessaire offrant des retours sur investissements majeurs : la démarche design UX est de nos jours un gage de l’adoption et de la réussite des projets de transformation digitale. La révolution digitale nécessite une étroite collaboration des DSI et des directions marketing et métier. Les DSI doivent adopter de nouvelles approches pour être plus proches des utilisateurs et de leur métier. En parallèle, les directions marketing et métier, plus adeptes de nouveaux usages, doivent adapter leurs méthodes et habitudes de travail pour se concentrer en premier lieu sur les couches basses de l’expérience utilisateur avant les couches hautes de l’interface graphique. A chaque étape, l’utilisateur est impliqué pour évaluer et valider les interfaces et interactions et ainsi garantir l’adéquation de la solution, l’adoption et la satisfaction des utilisateurs. Une démarche UX doit donc nécessairement être agile et itérative et s’intègre parfaitement à la méthodologie Scrum à partir du moment où le designer UX garde une avance sur les sprints : en effet le designer UX doit planifier les activités avant le début de chaque sprint et être donc extrêmement proactif et préparer le terrain pour les développements en présentant les concepts et les hypothèses de test en avance de sprint. Mais la démarche UX ne s’arrête pas là. Elle s’applique dans la durée afin de permettre l’amélioration continue d’une solution. Ainsi des outils d’analyse des usages vont permettre de mesurer l’usage réel des applications et le retour sur investissements (ROI) de la démarche UX. Ces outils vont permettre d’identifier des axes d’amélioration de l’application. Souvent ces améliorations potentielles se matérialisent sous la forme de plusieurs alternatives fonctionnelles ou ergonomiques : changer la couleur d’un bouton, changer son libellé, réorganiser l’ordre des menus voire même proposer une toute nouvelle ergonomie. Devant ces options, il n’est pas toujours évident de choisir la meilleure alternative pour la population d’utilisateurs ciblés. C’est là qu’interviennent les tests A/B ou tests multivariés.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
