With its expanding influence over fashion industry worldwide, S.Korea has been solidifying its stance as
a fashion-developed country. Although a small country, there are numerous fashion places in S.Korea
you simply must visit when you fly over to Seoul, Korea. Fashioninkorea.org has chosen two fashion
must-see fashion sights a fashionista should definitely hit in Korea.
1. Hongdae (Hong Ik University)
If you go ask any Korean where to visit for shopping, the answer you will get the most is “Hongdae”.
Hongdae is short for Hong Ik University which is a university especially known for its fine arts
department. Long before Hongdea became a fashion capital, it was known for the artists that roamed
around the area. Artists, musicians, and designers gathered around the district of Zanadri which is the
old name for the city that Hongdae is situated in.

Walking around Hongdae, you will soon find two straight streets filled with fashion venders. Of course
you can find retail stores, but the real fun lies in looking at the tiny stores and bargaining the price for
each pieces with the venders. Hongdae’s fashion is known for its fresh young vibe and uniqueness.

Another place you can go when you’re already around Hongdae is Sangsoo. Sangsoo is a place not far
from Hongdae (about ten minutes walk) where there are many unique select shop as well as petite cafes.
Hongdae is more of hip and street wear whereas sangsoo is more indie-like.
How to Get to Hong Ik University
The easiest way to get to the street known as shopping street or ‘a street that everyone wants to
walk’(걷고 싶은 거리) is to hit th subway. Take line number two a.k. a green line and you will find a
flow of people heading to the same destination. Follow that flow and you will easily find the wanted
place. Or, if you cannot find the flow, walk straight a block and cross the road to reach the shopping
district. Voila!

street name ‘Garosoogil’. Garosoogil has been known for its luxurious fashion style. The word
‘Garosoogil’ means a street of trees in Korean. So what it is is basically a long straight street with two

retail shops and big labels like MCM.
