The 19th Commonwealth Games will be contested from 3 to 14 October 2010, competitors striving
for success in 17 sporting codes. That's an increase of one sport on the 2006 Games in Melbourne.
Basketball and triathlon have been omitted, while archery, tennis and wrestling are added.
Aquatics
The swimming, diving and synchronised events will take place from the first to the last day of
competition. Swimming is up first, from 4 to 9 October, at the new Dr. SP Mukherjee Swimming

Australian swimming head coach Leigh Nugent as being impressed with the new stadium, and
describing it as 'state of the art.'

Archery returns to the Commonwealth Games for just the second time, having appeared in Brisbane
in 1982. The original plan was for two venues. Yamuna Sports Complex was to host the preliminary
competition, with advanced rounds conducted at India Gate from 7 to 10 October. On 8 July The
Hindu newspaper reported that India Gate would not now be used, with no reason given.

The 60,000 seat Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the venue for track and field, which will take place
from 6 to 12 October. Tradition will be maintained when the marathon ends competition just prior to

missed several deadlines for completion but will be ready before the end of July, according to
officials.
