  • 1. The Element of: Line
  • 2. Line is one of the 7 visual elements of design 1-Line-a continuous mark made on some surface by a moving point. 2-Shape 3-Color 4-Texture 5-Value 6-Space 7-Form
  • 3. There are 5 main kinds of lines 1- horizontal 2-vertical 3-diagonal 4-curved 5-zigzag
  • 4. Horizontal lines: • Lines that run parallel to the ground. • When used in a work of art, makes the viewer feel comfortable, calm, relaxed, peaceful and quiet.
  • 5. Vertical lines: • Lines that move up and down. • When used in a work of art, shows dignity, formality and strength.
  • 6. Diagonal lines: • Lines that slant. • When used in a work of art portray action and excitement!
  • 7. Curved Lines: • Lines that change direction gradually. • When viewed in a work of art express movement in a graceful, flowing manner.
  • 8. Zigzag lines: • Lines that are made by combining diagonal lines that change direction. • These lines when viewed in a work of art create confusion. They suggest action and excitement!
  • 9. Lines can have quality or thickness • Quality of lines – determined by the tool the artist uses and the motion of the artist’s hand. • Thickness- how dark and heavy it appears.
  • 10. Lines can have variations! • Length-long or short • Width-thick or thin • Texture-rough or smooth
