The mariner is a sailor who, despite good luck initially, is blow off course, to Antarctica by a storm. The mariner and his crew are surrounded by water but none of the water, being saltwater, is drinkable.An albatross appears to lead them back. The mariner shoots the bird and the ship's crew, in anger, hangs the albatross around the mariner's neck.We, in Ontario, are in a similar situation. Over the next twenty years, water shortages are predicted…Anybody remember where that comes from?rhyme of the ancient mariner – lost at sea, thirsty, can’t drinkalbatross tied around his neck: he couldn’t get rid of it, and it stunk
- …so the proposed solution is a $1.1 billion pipeline, which will pipe water from Lake Erie through our region.I believe this solution is like an albatross around our necks. It stinks.Through conservation we can more than eliminate the need for this pipeline.We can combine existing, conventional, gray, concrete infrastructure with conservation and 'green' infrastructure to create a sustainable future. And this future does not cost $1.1 billion.The ROW pipeline @>$1.1 billion is an albatross.Based on a 20 yr. projection: it’s a conventional grey (concrete) infrastructure project$1 billion builds a high school and staffs it for a yr (2 mid, 4 elementary)Or $50k ppl, give an extra $30k/yr$1820/person for 550k ppl.Move from gray infrastructure to green infrastructure
