The props we have decided to use in our horror film opening
are as follows..
• Silver knife
• Bubble bath
• Shower gel
• Hair band
• digital radio
• Door key
We have decided to use theses props to create the correct
atmosphere for our scene, and as a way of building up tension.
We decided to add
a knife into our
opening scene to
enhance the
tension, and to also
add a clue to the audience as to what may happen. We wanted to use a
silver knife so that when the light caught it would gleam, keeping it as
a main factor for the audience to remember. At the end of the last shot
of the opening sequences we added fake blood to the end of the blade,
to make it clear to the audience of what was going on. The fact we also
used a silver knife helps to contrast with the red blood, suggesting that
Danny was in a contrast frame of mind to what he usually is.
Here we have used bubble bath, this is to confirm
to the audience that Lucy is going to have a
relaxing bath, and its a peaceful atmosphere. We
decided on using an orange bubble bath to
contrast with the relaxed surroundings as the
colour orange is nowadays associated with
Halloween , even though this is very subtle it adds
a sense of mystery and is uncomforting for the
audience.
We added in the ‘jack wills’
shower gel to contrast with the
orange bubble bath, which would
raise the question to the audience
as to why Lucy is using the ‘not so
nice’ substance.
We used a hair band to show the
Lucy was getting ready to get into
the bath. This will also allow the
female audience to relate to Lucy as
most woman would prepare to get
into the bath by looking in the
mirror and taking their hair down.
This can also keep the male
audience interested as
stereotypically men find it ‘sexy’
when woman take there hair down.
The radio is used to show that Lucy is now getting relaxed, and is
listening to music for comfort as she’s home alone. This adds a lot of
tension to the opening sequence as it implies to the audience that Lucy
wont be able to hear anything if it comes. The make of the digital radio is
called ‘PURE’ which subtly suggests to the audience how young, innocent
and venerable Lucy is.
The key is used to add the first hint that the person coming in to
the house probably lives there, and Lucy will know him. It also
shows how easy it is for Danny to make Lucy his pray.
