king Kashyapa is son of king Dathusena who reigned
in capital of Anuradhapura. kashyapa put his father in to death
and ran away to Matale area and found this giant rock.
before occupation of sigiriya by king kashyapa ,

4. Sigiriya consists of an ancient citadel built by King Kashyapa
during the 5th century. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an
upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes
the Lion Gate an the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces located
behind the
lavish lower gardens, and moats an
ramparts which protected the citadel. The site was both a palace and a fortress.
The upper palace on the top of the rock includes cisterns cut into the rock that
still retain water.
The moats and walls that surround the lower palace are still exquisitely beautiful.
5. TERRACE OF THE LIONS PAWS
The sculpted lion's head which might have been breathtaking
had the power to win the admiration of the visitors to
sigiriya of the days goes by as mentioned in some of the
poems of the graffiti .how ever at present only the
colossal front two paws of the lion are visible.
Then access to the top of the rock from the lion’s paw
terrace had branches out through the lion's mouth the
gigantic size of the lion’s head could be gauged from the
cut marks left on the rock face to indicate the limit of
its construction .the two paws which remain now of the lion
had been constructed in brick and plastered with thick
layer of lime mortar.
