Rocky Mountain National Park
Do you want to see some mountains? Looking for a
vacation? Well, the perfect spot is the Rocky Mountain
National Park in Colorado.
The Rocky Mountain National Park was established in 1915. The name
represents the Rocky Mountains. Rocky Mountain National Park is the 7th
most visited national park. Around 3 million people visit a year.
The Rocky Mountain National Park has a lot of natural features. The
Rocky Mountains are about 2 million years old! The canyons were made
by glaciers. Trail Ridge Road, a road in the park, is 12,000 feet high! This
park has around 150 lakes inside the park. There are also 450 miles of
streams. This park also has a lot of animals and plants living in it. There are
about 60 species of animals and about 900 species of plants. The trees
don’t grow higher or around the elevation of 11,500 feet. Those are some of
the things that you can see in the park.
This park also has some history to it also. John Wesley Powell
reached the top of Longs Peak in 1868. Indians lived in the mountains for a
long time. Other people started to explore the mountains in the 1800’s.
This park faces a challenge. The challenge is that visitors feed
the animals, causing them not to get enough water because human
foods are high in sodium.
Do you think this park is a good place to see some mountains?
How about a vacation destination?
