Hulu Offering Paid Subscription Via iPad, Xbox Live, and PlayStation 3
1. Hulu Offering Paid Subscription Via iPad, Xbox Live, and
PlayStation 3
Hulu announced a new subscription service, Hulu Plus ($9.99), offering video streaming across a
number of devices- iPhone, iPad, Xbox Live, and PlayStation 3. Hulu Plus is not a replacement for
Hulu; while Hulu.com will still offer free television episodes and clips, Hulu Plus will enable the user
to view full series, and current broadcasts over internet opposed to cable or satellite in real time.Â
Hulu Plus is high-definition right to your television screen, iPhone, or iPad.
For $9.99 you wouldn't expect to get the
same amount of channels as you do for your
cable, but if all goes to plan Hulu Plus the
networks will have proof that the internet
could easily top cable and satellite, making
them add more content expenses down the
road. It seems that networks would prefer to
take out the cable and satellite middleman-why
pay them a portion of the profit, when
you can avoid that line all together?Â
Especially when internet can deliver more
efficiently.
2. Hulu Plus has modeled their plan after Netflix. Netflix charges $8.99, but does not provide real-time
streaming and subscribers must wait before a season is off the air to get it (I'm sure they will
be changing their model in the very near future). Hulu Plus is going to be the new wave of
television, and even though the Networks are holding the cards right now, because they own the
content, the market will still decide how to distribute it.
Hulu Plus is set to be available on the iPhone 4, iPad, Xbox Live and PlayStation 3; a number of
additional devices will be supported in the near future.
Would you pay $9.99 for Hulu Plus and chuck your current cable box or satellite out the window?
