4. Conclusion... In conclusion the results from the audience research show that in terms of content people would prefer their local newspaper to inform them and educate them. Less chosen types of content were entertainment and unexpected news. I presumed this would be so as most individuals who read newspapers tend to be more analytical. In terms of local newspaper design, the number of people who preferred text heavy pages and pages with more photographs were close to equal. The people who preferred a balance were very little. This was very unexpected. I was expecting people to prefer a delicate balance between the percentage of the page being devoted to text and the percentage devoted to photographs. This research was essential. I now understand the uses and gratifications an audience would like to receive out of their local newspaper. I will apply this when gathering material for my own local newspaper. Knowing what people prefer in terms of design is also very helpful. I will apply this when creating my local newspaper.
