Let me introduce you with few basic concepts of aromatherapy.
I know some of you may be totally new to this, or some of you might have been fascinated the way spa marketers have used this term to attract you.

Individual Oriented Usage
Psycho-Aromatherapy as the name suggests is related to organs that control our psychology. This is one of the major usage category of aromatherapy. Here we use essential oils for the purpose of relaxing or stimulating nerves and brain cells.
The disease treatment usage of aromatherapy comes under therapeutic aromatherapy. Here the anti viral, anti bacterial, anti inflammatory and immune system corrective properties of essential oils is used. This branch is put under the scanner by many main stream medical practitioners, but research does support the claim that therapeutic properties do exists and are useful prevention as well as cure of diseases. Many times aromatherapy has acted as a support treatment to enhance the efficacy of other regular treatment.Aesthetic aspect of aromatherapy is popular the world over and a major industry of cosmetics, beauty products and spas thrives due to magical powers of essentials oils to enhance our beauty.Spiritual Aromatherapy is the one, of which we get oldest references from. Use of various fragrances along with other rituals may not just be a custom. It has many other direct benefits on our health and on our environment.
Group Oriented Usage
Ergonomic –Aromatherapy can be said to be a modern category of use. It is being researched for work efficiency enhancement on factory shop floor, in office environments, for computer programmers etc. Many qualified researches support the notion that aromatherapy does improve work efficiency.Environmental –Aromatherapy or the usage of aroma for environment protection has been successfully tried with community participation. Spraying citronella for mosquito management or using some essential oils in the floor cleaners can also be classified as a type of environmental aromatherapy.
Other UsageAlthough I do not recommend ingestion of essential oils in any way the practice of using few types of essential oils as part of recipes has been there in some countries. For the purpose of categorization we shall call it Culinary –Aromatherapy. Using herbs and spices in recipes, in a way is using their aromatic compounds as well, but using essential oils directly is something I do not recommend at least at this level of Introduction to aromatherapy.
Now comes the preservative usage of aromatherapy. This is the one use that Egyptians used a lot. It is used for preservation purposes even today. For time being I shall just say that it is beyond the scope of this discussion.
