This document defines and provides signs of different types of abuse and neglect that can occur against elderly residents, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental abuse, neglect, verbal abuse, and involuntary seclusion. It outlines the responsibilities of staff to report any witnessed, alleged, or suspected abuse immediately to supervisors. Upon receiving a report, the appropriate medical, social, and investigative responses will be initiated while removing the suspected offender from the facility pending investigation. Criminal penalties may apply for any staff found guilty of abusing or neglecting a resident.
