2. About the magazine…
Q music magazine is a popular music magazine in the
United Kingdom. The founders of it are Mark Ellen and
David Hepworth. The first copy of the magazine was
published in October 1986. It is a monthly magazine and
sets itself aside from other music magazines because of
this and the high quality photography and printing. The
magazine was originally going to be called cue because of
the cueing of a record ready to be played however this
changed to Q because it could be mistaken for a snooker
magazine and the one letter title would be more prominent
in the stands in shops.
3. Who owns Q?
Q music magazine is owned by Bauer Media, which is
Europe's largest privately owned publishing company and
they offer over 300 magazines. This is a media group which
is very popular as they do not only produce many different
magazines they also have TV channels and radio stations.
Bauer Medias publications include: heat magazine, FHM,
Closer and MCN. The radio channels and TV channels that
they produce are magic 105.4, kiss 100 and Kerrang and
4Music. Bauer media also own other genre music
magazines such as Kerrang!
4. Bauer Media
Bauer Media are a popular publishing group who are
situated in Hamburg in Germany. The company was
founded in 1875 and ever since then it has been a
privately-owned company and is under the management by
the Bauer family. The worldwide circulation of Bauer
Medias magazine titles is approximately 38 million
magazines a week.
5. The company…
The company is a well established company and I would
say that it was a mainstream company because they
produce a number off magazines which are sold in Britain
and are very popular. The total circulation of Q magazine is
80,418 which means that the magazine is very popular so it
must be mainstream.
6. British?
I would say that Q magazine is very British because it is
only sold in Britain. However the magazine is published in
Germany and then sent over to Britain to be sold. The
founders of the magazine Mark Ellen and David Hepworth
are both British.
7. Other relevant info…
Q music have an online website which gives information on
the top 25 and the top 50 songs, it has a track of the day
which is available for download, a gallery and tickets for
sale. (http://www.qthemusic.com/)
Q also have a radio station which launched in June 2008.
The show presenters include Russell Kane, Eddie Piller
and QPM with Samanthi.
8. Audience…
Q magazine focuses mainly on pop and rock music. The
genre that this is mainly aimed at is men, however there
are some women readers. Q magazine is not as gender
biased as other music magazines such as Kerrang! The
magazine is also the magazine is aimed at a younger
audience because they focus on newer rock music rather
than classical rock music. I would class the age range of
the magazine between about 18 and 30 because it is a
young person based magazine however older readers may
read the magazine. Also the audience for the magazine has
got to be music fanatics who like a specific genre.
