Obesity is one of the most serious medical issues facing the U.S.. Currently two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese with this contributing to an elevated prevalence of a number of diseases such as prediabetes, diabetes and cardiovascular disease2. The good news is that modest fat loss - 5-10% of bodyweight - can improve or even prevent obesity-related health conditions.
1. Obesity is one of the most serious medical issues facing the U.S.. Currently two-thirds of U.S. adults are
overweight or obese with this contributing to an elevated prevalence of a number of diseases such as
prediabetes, diabetes and cardiovascular disease2. The good news is that modest fat loss - 5-10% of
bodyweight - can improve or even prevent obesity-related health conditions.
Prediabetes
79 million adults are estimated to have prediabetes, a health condition that's linked to being obese and
obese. Left unchecked, prediabetes can bring about type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association
recommends that obese or overweight adults with one or more additional risk factors for diabetes
should be tested for prediabetes. A number of these factors include not exercising enough, having high
blood pressure levels, low HDL (‘good’) cholesterol and high triglyceride levels
Prediabetes is easy to determine. Your doctor will most likely order a blood test to determine your
fasting blood glucose (sugar) level. If your glucose levels are between 100 and 125 mg/dL you fall within
a prediabetes range.
Having excess visceral fat - fat surrounding your organs - also seems to be a key factor in the
development of prediabetes. Are you pear-shaped (carrying weight around your hips) or apple-shaped
(carrying weight around your belly)? Apple-shaped people can have more visceral fat, and are
considered to be at a higher risk of getting diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The great thing is that modest weight loss and physical exercise can lower the risk of prediabetes
progressing to type 2 diabetes. Losing 5-10% of your bodyweight can help get you out of the prediabetes
range. Green-Fu can help you achieve that weight loss, and kick-start a healthier lifestyle. Weight
reduction with Green-Fu also has been shown to reduce that harmful visceral fat.
Type 2 diabetes
There are two kinds of diabetes. Obesity and being overweight is associated with the kind that’s called
type 2 diabetes. It occurs when your body can’t use insulin effectively (insulin is a hormone that
regulates the way glucose (sugar) moves into the cells of your body). Careful diabetes management is
important, as it is a disorder that can have serious health consequences.
2. Weight reduction is an integral part of diabetes management. A 5-10% reduction in weight can improve
the body’s ability to use insulin, and therefore improve glucose levels. It can also lower blood pressure,
and reduce levels of LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol in your arteries.
Green-Fu, alongside dieting and exercise, can help you lose 5-10% of your bodyweight.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD)
Sadly, people with type 2 diabetes have up to four times the danger of developing cardiovascular
disease (CVD) as those without it. CVD includes heart disease, stroke, and the hardening of arteries
supplying blood to the legs. By losing a relatively small amount of weight - just 5-10% of your total
bodyweight - you can lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and as a consequence lower your
chance of developing coronary disease.
