source:http://trip-per.com/blog/index.php/whats-the-best-things-about-being-an-expat-in-beijing/

Beijing is one of China’s international cities as expats from all over the globe can be seen and heard in its streets. This capital of the most populous

nation in the world has attracted people from abroad since the “opening up of China” in the 1980’s. While every expat has his or her own reasons

for wanting to reside in Beijing, there are some things about this city that expats unanimously cite as reasons why Beijing is the place to be.

While many Chinese may complain that Beijing is an expensive city, many expats find the cost of living in Beijing to be quite low when compared

to their home countries. Beijing’s huge metro system is very cheap and make’s traveling the city convenient. Cheap restaurants are easy to find

throughout Beijing, and of course there are plenty of places to haggle over the prices of already cheap goods.

Beijing offers a variety of dining options, ranging from local to international flavors. International goods are also sold widely in Beijing, which

facilitates adjustment for the multitudes of expats roaming the streets.

Beijing is an English friendly city. Most posted information and recordings are in both Chinese and English. English speakers are easy to find in

Beijing, a great help for those expats with limited Chinese speaking ability. The local population, accustomed to living side by side with foreigners,

will often offer assistance when it is apparently needed.

Many expats like Beijing because of the interesting mix of personalities they encounter with such great frequency there. As the political and

cultural center of China, Beijing is a melting pot for many successful, ambitious people, both Chinese and internationals. The job opportunities for

expats are more abundant in Beijing than in most places n China. Many expats enjoy careers in Beijing that they couldn’t enjoy at home.

As in nearly any other international city, offers a unique perspective for expats. In addition Beijing is the ultimate place to view the development of

China, as the metropolis itself continues to develop and expand at break neck speed.
