3. Song/lyrics choice overview
The lyrics for our chosen song are minimal, only containing the words
“Promise, ooh, i’ll get there,i’ll get there”.
We chose this in order to show people that simplicity is sometimes best.
We live in a world of over complicated things whether that is gadget or politics
and we forget to take a step back and really look into the smaller details.
We chose a lyrically minimal song to not only emphasise the focus on the few
lyrics but also the music video and the themes it portrays.
Our plan for our music video is for it to resemble a modern day treasure hunt
with a party being the prize and the lyrics work perfectly with the plot.
The repetition of the words “I’ll get there" not only speaks literally about the
characters making it to the house party but also metaphorically, about growing
up and getting to goals in life.
Mura Masa has a common pattern of simple lyrics, as seen with one of his
other popular songs Love$ick.
My partner and I both agreed on choosing a song with minimal lyrics to
change the common idea that a song must have many differentiating lyrics to
show meaning.
We chose to do this in order for the audience to think more about the little
information that they are given.
“I need you
I’m a lovesick f**k
I want you
I’m lovesick f**k”
4. Lyric structure
While the lyrics remain virtually the same
throughout, the structure changes slightly
throughout in terms of the order of the few
specific lyrics used.
The use of interjections at the start of the song
creates a soft and calm feeling that resembles
the start of a treasure hunt.
After this, the interjections are integrated into
other lyrics which continues the calm feeling but
also contrasts with the other lyrics which give off
an aura of importance, eagerness and urgency.
The repetition of the lyrics reciprocates what will
appear in the music video, a long and tiresome
treasure hunt. However, the abrupt end with the
words “I’ll get there” cuts the tiring adventure
short and shows the audience that if you keep
working towards something the end can come at
anytime and make the adventure worth it.
