     GO!
What do you See?
Background
                         John the Baptist
-of priestly descent - yet untrained, without authorization of
rabbis or license from the chief priests.

-proclaimed himself as one sent of God with a message.

-Appeared not in the synagogues or temple courts.
-Multitudes went out to hear him in the wilderness - rogue
-Rough desert garb - did not eat the food of luxury and ease
When John spoke the people were astonished and feeling the
spirit for the first time cried out, “What shall we do then”

            unselfish charity - practical religion
“He that hath two coats let him impart to him that hath
                          none.”

It appears that John had the gift of discernment. He could
look at you and decide wether you had repented.
Jesus and John were 2nd cousins

Many thought that he might be the christ.

Himself he would not exalt yet, his office was sacred to him.

John was the harbinger not of the kingdom but of the King,
and to him the King in person came.
John did not know that Jesus was the Christ, the mightier one
for whom he waited and whose forerunner he knew himself
                           to be.

John had been told of a sign by which he would know whom
                     the Messiah was.

Combine that with the Father’s assertion that “This is my
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”
Matthew Ch. 3
