Learn about a “hat trick” of solutions that can significantly extend the value of JDE for your organization – JDE purge and archive, automated and integrated Spreadsheet reporting, and integrated RF data collection. During the session, we will explain what each solution is, how it provides efficiencies for JDE customers, give at least two case studies for each product, and let you know the questions to ask yourself to see if the solution would help you out.

•
Eliminate time consuming and inaccurate paper based processes
Guided work for staff –define processes and have them followed
Get to “ 9s”for inventory accuracy … how are you doing?
5
Greatly reduce staff training time
In conjunction with WMS, really make your operations sing!
Increase your volumes without corresponding increase in staff / space
Virtually eliminate human error in receive / pick / ship process
Reduce excess safety stock
Real time visibility into stock and order status
• Cloud based solution now available
5. RF-Smart –some numbers …
• CARRYING COST: $30 million in inventory, safety stock now 9%,
reduce by 1/3 = $900K reduction. 15% COC = $135K
• SHIP ERRORS: 2,500 lines per day picked, a 1.5% reduction in errors,
$20/error (low) to fix = $195K/year in savings (excludes customer sat
increase)
• STAFF SAVINGS: 10 staff, $45K/person burdened cost, 15% increase
(have seen more than this) = $68K/year in savings
• Total of almost $400K annually
6. RF-Smart –Ask yourself …
• What is your inventory accuracy? What would 1, 2 or 3% improvement
mean?
• How long does it take to train seasonal or new staff?
• What is your level of errors in shipments? Picking? Receiving?
• What would a 50% increase in volume mean to your operations (or an
acquisition)?
• Are you wiping out your main pick area for large orders?
• Do you work in multiple units of measure (AWM)
• Your warehouse manager’ office … drowning in paper??
s
Is your warehouse operation more like a hockey game or a ballet?
7. RF-Smart –Alcon Labs (JDE World)
• Part of Alcon –founded in 1945, Canadian operations started in 1959; part
of Novartis since Jan 2010
• 3 key product lines - Surgical, Ophthalmic Rx, Contact Lens Care
• Needed to:
• Improve overall accuracy and efficiency
• Eliminate “
periods of mayhem”and “
tricks”to get work done
• Manage new, larger facility
• Implemented RF-SMART and AWM (system 46)
• Staged: replenishment first, then picking, then putaway
• Main goals:
• inventory accuracy to 99.9% from 97%
• Pick accuracy (errors) to 1 in 1,000 from 1 in 200
• Handle growth more efficiently
• Directed picking, directed putaway, replenishment , picking in right units
from right location (mainly via AWM)
8. RF-Smart –Alcon Labs
• Results:

•
Live for over 10 years, project was on time and on budget
Volume is up 50% with only 10% staff increase
Physical counts eliminated
New staff trained in 45 minutes versus 30 days
Integration allows staff in Customer Service to see live status of orders
Data captured used to set objectives for warehouse staff
Now “
paperless”in operation
Wall to wall counts in areas down to 6 hours versus 3 days
• Other benefits obtained that are more tied to the AWM implementation.
“ would never want to go back to the old ways … ”
I
Neil Wilson, Director Logistics and Facilities
9. RF-Smart –D-Link UK (EnterpriseOne)
• Running JDE for years; implemented RF-SMART and AWM
• New facility in 2005 for European operations –74,000 square foot
warehouse –consolidated from several separate facilities
• Ship to 27 countries, primarily distribution customers (not consumers)
• D-Link Canada, Australia, US also run RF-SMART.
• Wins and benefits:
• From 2002 to 2004: 35% reduction in warehouse labor costs; further
reduction of about 14% since then; volumes over 6 years increased about 25%.
• Training time went from months to about 20 minutes
• Air (rush) shipments dropped dramatically (from about 35 –40%) to
virtually none … similar to what has happened at other D-Link locations.
(Not solely due to RF-Smart, but this was a key contributor)
• Dramatic reduction in stock write offs
• Inventory accuracy from about 67% in 2004 to 99.999% since 2006
• Cost as compared to products shipped, received and sales dollars down 55% –
75%
10. RF-SMART –Customer comments
“
With RF-SMART, we have experienced a 25% increase in productivity and a 67%
decrease in overtime costs –a savings of more than $300,000 annually. Although
we thought the system would pay for itself in two years, it only took nine months.”
Bacardi Bottling
“
Inefficiencies decreased dramatically as manual data entry was replaced with RFSMART’ high-speed automated data collection. As a result, Able Sales reduced
s
their inventory counts from three days to just six hours on an annual basis. Able
sales also tripled operational capacity without adding to their employee
headcount.”
Able Sales

manner, providing for better performance
• Reduce the need to add disk and upgrade the system
• EnterpriseOne: allow access to archived data directly within
production
• Clean up old and dirty data
• Carve off obsolete data (LOB, division that was closed)
• Easy to use, easy to maintain
14. Purge-IT! –Ask yourself …
• How much data do you have –7 or more years is likely too
much
• How is your performance?

• Have you ever taken a look at your file usage and disk space
by module?
• Has your business changed in the last X years?
• Refreshing environments regularly?

Phase II
Archived 3 different JDE releases and consolidated data.
Retired A7.3 release and migrated to EnterpriseOne 9.0
Retired OneWorld 8.0 release and migrated to EnterpriseOne 9.0
16. Purge-IT! –RR Donnelley - results
“
From the IT perspective, the Purge-it! product has done exactly what it
said it would do, which is always a good thing about a product. From a
business perspective, the end-users have the confidence of knowing that the
archive data is easily accessible on-line, if they need to go back to it. We
gained a lot of intangible benefits, including:
• Increases in batch and interactive processing speed
• Reduction of back-up time and system downtime
• Reduction in back-up media size
• Reduction in data integrity issues related to big-data
• Reductions of support needed to correct data integrity issues
• Reductions in support to manage a slowing system
• Reduction in the future costs of disks
• Reduction in month-end processing time
• General increases in user productivity across the company.”
Dave Norcliffe, International IT Project Manager
17. Purge-IT! –District of Saanich
• Municipality on Vancouver Island, Canada; named after the Saanich First
Nation
• Live on EnterpriseOne since 2004: EnterpriseOne 8.11 with General
Ledger, Accounts Payable, Purchasing and Inventory.
• Wanted to be proactive on the data clean up side; also get cleaned up in
advance of upgrades
• Backups were getting to the point of interfering with operations
• As public organization had to do appropriate due diligence
The project:
Self installed the ASU; couple of days of training to learn the tool
Purge was collaboration between IT and user community (data owners)
Kept 7 years in production
Helped uncover data issues that were not visible otherwise
Have continued with regular purges –since easy to use, most users not even
aware it is running
18. Purge-IT! –District of Saanich - results
Improved performance, happier users, reduction in back up time, prepared
for upgrades.
“ other solutions (we evaluated) seemed more complicated, lower
The
value, not as tightly integrated and not as easy to implement.
The product itself performed flawlessly and our users have rapidly
accepted it in large part due to its seamless integration with JD Edwards.
Accessing archived data is so easy, in particular compared to other
solutions.
IT will love how easy Purge-IT! is to work with, and your users will
appreciate its integration with JDE and the ease of archive data access.”
Terry Maclaren, Business System Analyst

23. Spreadsheet Server –GN Johnston Equipment
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Part of Toyota, 9 business lines and 12 branches in Canada.
EnterpriseOne 8.12, financials, distribution, work orders, live in 2006
Licenced and trained Spreadsheet Server at start of May of 2010.
Within 2 weeks had switched their financial statements and reports to
Spreadsheet Server –after the “
massive”2 days of training.
Currently used by all staff in accounting; Finance Director has built
analytics for management showing trends.
Prior: reports took hours to run, mistakes / errors would be noticed /
corrections done then hours to rerun reports. Month end reports took 3
days to create and distribute. “
Many trees were killed as part of this
process.”
Now: reports and analysis done with Spreadsheet Server … updates as
needed done (call or email after review on line), then “
refresh”(several
seconds) and updated info shown. The three days have been reclaimed.
CFO uses regularly, even uses the Distribution Manager component to
distribute reports that are not yet in SSS.
24. Spreadsheet Server –GN Johnston
“ have not been in JDE since we brought in Spreadsheet Server. I can report,
I
analyze and drill down right in the tool.”
“
This is one of the best JDE tools I have ever seen or used.”
“ knew within 5 minutes of seeing the product that we needed to get it –it was
I
that obvious to me.”
Randy Wronzberg, CFO, GN Johnston Equipment
Note: GH Johnston also has a BI solution in place …
25. Spreadsheet Server –Customer comments
“
Even our most senior account staff rarely uses JD Edwards anymore –they
mainly use Spreadsheet Server as a means of getting their work done.”
“
Our users understand this product, and as a result, reporting can be completed
more quickly and accurately.”
“
One of the best features of Spreadsheet Server for use with JD Edwards is that we
no longer need to recreate reports, like budget to actual or departmental expense
reports. We build it once, and we’ done!”
re
“ you have JD Edwards, you have to have Spreadsheet Server... it does one
If
simple thing, it brings information from JD Edwards automatically into your
financial analysis.”
“
When I ran the finance component of IT, I loved Spreadsheet Server –because
Finance stopped screaming at me for information!”
26. Customer comments –Mike’ favourites
s
“
Our estimate was it averaged $2 - $5K per report to have them developed by our
IT staff using ERW –and we had 500 reports to create. The payback was immense,
and the time savings were dramatic.”
Fareed Somji, Director of Finance - ERP Optimization & Process Innovation,
Parkland Fuel Corporation
“
You're going to buy the product. You'd be silly not too... bringing information
together for financial decision making... it's the only way to go...”
Charles Schmidt, IT Director, Fisher Brothers
