Project Initiation: Approximately March 2012
Project Size: 150± acres
Project Goals
Restoration and Remediation of eastern shoreline of Tchefuncte River (Phase 1)
Establish first Eco-Wetlands Park/Reserve in St. Tammany Parish with public use, education and natural habitat
preservation as the priorities.
Create a scenic boardwalk and trailhead that will lead to the Western point of the site creating a pier for photography,
recreation and fishing.
Project Statement
Restoration and Remediation of Phase 1 to establish a gateway to the eco-park/reserve for visitors, wildlife
enhancement and invasive species management. Adjacent to the Scenic and Historic Tchefuncte River, Wetlands
Restoration Group has been working with the TRF instituting a concept plan to promote understanding and
protection of an eco-wetlands park, enhance community pride and involvement and to encourage the education of
wetlands to all ages.
Keeping the vision that any work done will leave a minimal footprint which will preserve the natural beauty of the
wetlands and protect the habitat of numerous species within the park. TRF will be implementing a Phased approach
to the entire park so all friends can enjoy the grounds and watch progress of the park over the years.

5. Site Evaluation
During the site evaluation, the Wetlands Restoration Group
(WRG) visited the site to evaluate the site with the TRF
representative Kyle Catalano
The site evaluation and on site discussions led to the formation
of the approach for site development and project tasks in
Phase I
WRG has taken these concepts discussed in the Site Evaluation
and formulated a conceptual plan for execution
7. Planning
The Wetlands Restoration Group staff has developed an
initial plan for site development that involves :
Identify the natural levee
GIS Mapping of project area
Inventory of Flora and Fauna
Archeological overview of site and recommendations
Develop a site clean up plan for trash removal
Develop a scope for a prescribed control burn and non-
mechanical removal of undesirable species
9. Design
WRG will take the Site Evaluation and the Conceptual Plan to develop
a Project ready set of Construction Drawings
The site design plan involves:
The Design of recreation use areas and components (benches,
pavilions, boardwalks, waste, and trash facilities)
Design Placards and signage
Design of observation, fishing and photography pier
Tchefuncte River Foundation review
All permits if needed are finalized
Monetary issues approved & finalized
All Federal, State & Local departments are notified before project is
started.
11. Execution and Implementation
All waste and project trash are removed from site
Installation of boardwalk, pier and picnic area.
Installation of wave energy break along pier
Wake, Trash, Wildlife, Vegetation, Site and Safety Signage
Debris and Trash removal from site
Signage on site, boat ramps and marinas notifying work
Creating fire break in buffer area for prescribed burn
Initiate prescribed burn of shoreline
Removal of all undesirable species
19. Monitoring and Maintenance
Final Site Walk of Construction completion and
approval from TRF and members
Supervise and coordinate the opening of site to public
Monitor vegetation and tree growth for project site
Monitor boardwalks and pier
Monitor all other aspects of site
Initiate future plans for Phase II of project
