of Strategic Analysis Enterprises, Inc., Stephen M.
Shellman also concentrates his efforts on managing
the Violent Intranational Political Conflict and
Terrorism (VIPCAT) Research Laboratory at the
College of William and Mary. Steve Shellman brings
a capacity for research and thorough understanding
of political science to all aspects of his career, as
demonstrated by his win of the Peace Science
Society’s award for best dissertation in the field of
peace studies.

The Peace Science Society bestows its Walter Isard
Award for Best Dissertation in Peace Science every
two years on a candidate who has contributed
significantly to the study of peace and conflict.
There are no restrictions as to gender or nationality.
In order to win, a student must successfully defend
a dissertation on any subject related to peace
science. Past winners have written on a number of
topics, including conflict behavior and various
aspects of international relations.
4. The Walter Isard Award for Best
Dissertation in Peace Science
Along with the admiration of peers and public
recognition for their diligent research and key role
in the advancement of peace studies, recipients of
the Walter Isard Award are given $1,000. Stephen
Shellman’s dissertation "Taking Turns: A Theory
and Model of Government-Dissident Interactions"
won him the honor in 2004.
