Welsh Government Enterprise Zone Business Rate Scheme •  Grant Type: Other •  Amount: £ 20,000,000 •  Geographic Focus: UK •  Deadline: 11th February 2013 http://enterprisezones.wales.gov.uk•  A £20 million Business Rate Scheme will open this month to provide financial support for business rates liabilities incurred by small and medium-sized businesses located in the seven Enterprise Zones in Wales. The scheme will run over four financial years from 2012/13 to 2015/16 and will target support at boosting job creation and business growth. The first call for applications will be made on 15 January 2013 and will close at 9.00am on 11 February 2013.

In supporting new-start businesses and jobs expansion from renewable energy producers, the scheme seeks to assist growth of the sector in Wales and help increase capacity to generate heat and power from renewable sources.

Entrants may compete for prizes in three categories totaling $22,500. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. This is the 13th year for the competition. In that time, it has grown from nine teams competing for $10,000 in prize money in 2001, to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than $1.3 million in cash and prizes.

Academics for companies - Vlerick Business School CleanTech Challenge Belgium •  Grant Type: Start-ups •  Amount: € 5,000 •  Geographic Focus: Europe •  Deadline: 27th February 2013 http://cleantechchallenge.be•  CleanTech Challenge is an innovative 3 stage competition for students hosted by the London Business School and University College London. Since the start in 2009, KU Leuven Research & Development has endorsed this competition and supported teams from the KU Leuven. In a collaboration with AFC and Vlerick, this has resulted in the establishment of a Belgian competition where the winner has a guaranteed place in the 3rd stage bootcamp finals in London. Competition-Collider Activity Center - Walltopia International Architectural Competition-Collider Activity Center •  Grant Type: Research & Development •  Amount: € 25,000 •  Geographic Focus: Bulgaria •  Deadline: 28th February 2013 http://www.collider.eu/•  The scope of the competition is the development of an architectural project and schematic design for the “Collider Activity Center” according to the enclosed project assignment and supplementary materials. The competition program is coordinated with the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria and the Union of Architects in Bulgaria.

Department of Energy’s (DOE) – Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) ACC Clean Energy Challenge •  Grant Type: Prize - Awards •  Amount: $100,000 •  Geographic Focus: US •  Deadline: 1st March 2013 http://www.accnrg.com/•  The $100K ACC Clean Energy Challenge is a business plan competition encouraging students from all universities throughout the southeastern United States to develop business plans for new clean energy companies, is now accepting entries. The ACC Clean Energy Challenge, supported by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), invites business plans with commercialization potential in the clean energy space, including projects related to renewable energy, energy efficiency improvements and advanced fuels/vehicles.

Technology Strategy Board Digital & Creative Clyde Launchpad Competition •  Grant Type: Research & Development •  Amount: £ 900,000 •  Geographic Focus: UK •  Deadline: 6th March 2013 http://www.innovateuk.org/content/competition/digital-and-creative-clyde- launchpad.ashx/•  The The Technology Strategy Board is to invest up to £900k in innovative R&D projects centered on the emerging cluster of creative and digital businesses in Glasgow. The competition aims to stimulate this hotspot of digital and creative industries by enabling companies to go further and/or faster towards commercial success. In partnership with Creative Clyde, we want to draw investment and people into the area, and to encourage networking and collaboration to strengthen the cluster.

The winning farmer will receive £4,000, a commemorative plaque and a package of support to help them promote their ideas to other farmers and land managers.
