• A £20 million Business Rate Scheme will open this month to provide financial support for
business rates liabilities incurred by small and medium-sized businesses located in the seven
Enterprise Zones in Wales.
The scheme will run over four financial years from 2012/13 to 2015/16 and will target support at
boosting job creation and business growth.
The first call for applications will be made on 15 January 2013 and will close at 9.00am on 11
February 2013.

• The Rice University Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level
business plan competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and
Entrepreneurship and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business.
This is the 13th year for the competition. In that time, it has grown from nine teams competing
for $10,000 in prize money in 2001, to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than
$1.3 million in cash and prizes.
