• Part of Intesa Sanpaolo’s Start-Up Initiative, the European Cleantech Challenge is a yearly
business plan competition aimed at supporting the best cleantech startups from European
countries.
• In a unique end-to-end program Cleantech startups benefit from coaching, networking and
direct contact with international investors through a series of focused events. The initiative
gives businesses the skills, connections and capital they need to go to market and scale.

Collaborative R&D Materials for Energy

• The Technology Strategy Board has allocated up to £3m to invest in highly innovative,
collaborative R&D projects that address the application and demonstration of materials

Climate Research

• Totally NOK 11 millions per year is granted to research on globalization of the
environment, energy and climate. The funds shall contribute to strengthen the knowledge
base in the South and Norway, and contribute to tackle long-term environmental issues and the
commitments in relation to the Norwegian Action plan for Environment in Development
Cooperation. The funds shall also contribute to strengthen the Norwegian institutions role as
good global partners within this area. The NORGLOBAL/Globmek activity cooperates with
relevant programs by funding partners from South included in their projects.

Lemelson-MIT Award for Global
Innovation 2012

The Ashden Awards

Ashden Awards For Sustainable Energy 2012

• The International Ashden Awards are cash prizes of £20 thousand to £40 thousand to
support projects in sustainable energy in Africa, Asia (including China), and Latin America
and the Caribbean. The competition is open to businesses, NGOs, social enterprises, and
government organizations. Themes for 2012 include micro finance and carbon finance for
energy projects; new energy products for low-income customers; renewable electricity;
renewable fuels; and energy-related actions that reduce deforestation. Information materials
are available in English, French, Mandarin, and Spanish. The closing date is 18 October 2011.


Stockholm International Water Institute

Stockholm Water Prize 2012

• The Stockholm Water Prize is awarded annually for outstanding achievements supporting
the availability, conservation, and protection of the world’s water resources. The award is
open to individuals and organizations of any nationality whose work contributes broadly to the
conservation and protection of water resources. The Prize is US$150 thousand and a crystal
sculpture. Nominations close 15 September 2011.

Graduate Research Awards on Climate Change
and Water

understand how climate change affects water resources and find ways to improve the ability of
citizens and governments to adapt to the changing environment.

• Ford Motor Company's Conservation & Environmental Grants programme has become an
annual event in the Middle East. Since its inception in 2000, the GCC/Levant chapter of the grants
programme has supported at least 130 projects with more than $1 million granted to date.

• In 2011, the Ford Motor Company Conservation & Environmental Grants - supported by UNESCO -
will provide support to creative projects focused on Conservation Engineering, Protection of the
Natural Environment and Environmental Education. A total of US$100,000 is available for the
deserving initiatives

Grants for Collaborative Research on
Environment and Health in China

• Amount: $15,000
• Geographic Focus: China

• The collaborative grants program was started in 2008 to stimulate new research on
