Volumes
GPS receives forecasted part volumes from Legacy systems. This
batch process validates the data and updates the appropriate GPS
tables. GPS also allows users to add part volumes on line. Legacy
volumes override GPS-created volumes so if there are any GPS-
created volumes when adding a legacy volume for a Part/Year, all of
the GPS-created volumes for that Part/Year are deleted.
Forecasted volumes can be sent as a monthly volume or as an annual
volume. Each organization may only send either monthly volumes or
annual volumes - not both. When an annual volume is sent GPS
derives the monthly volumes. The “Volume Month” will indicate the
starting month and year for the derived monthly volumes.

Volume Records must pass various edits before being loaded into GPS.
If the volume record is rejected because it did not pass a volume
validation a reject report will be generated listing the Part/Volume
information and the validation(s) it did not pass. The reject report will be
generated for specific Legacy systems and distributed to the appropriate
GPS users for error resolution. Volume records that have been sent for a
part that is not on GPS will be written to a cycle file. These records will
cycle until the part is added to GPS or until a pre-determined number of
days have passed.
If a part is canceled for a given model year, the Part Feed Batch process
deletes volume data for the model years greater than or equal to the one
canceled, for the current volume month and those volume months still in
the future. If volume data is received for a canceled Part, it is not loaded
to the GPS tables.

Volumes may also be entered online thru GPS .
The Part Volume screen is available to the user to view and maintain
part volume relationships for each part number .
To add part volumes the user must first inquire on the Part Volume
screen for the selected part number.
To inquire on a part’s volumes the user must add a part to the
navigation tree. The Part Volume screen can then be launched by
selecting the Part Volume leaf. On initial inquiry of the screen the grid
will be empty. The user must choose one of the 5 ‘Breakdown
volumes by’ radio buttons and then press <inquire>. The following
volume information will be displayed for all of the breakdowns: Year,
Annual Volume and Unit of Measure.

Volumes
Volumes can only be added when the ‘All’ breakdown radio button
is selected. The user can enter information on the first available
line in the grid. If the grid is full the user must click the insert row
button to create a new row.
The Annual Volume for a given year is divided by 12 so that 12
records for each of the 12 months beginning with the Starting
Year/Starting Month will be created for the selected part
number/part year combination. Volumes cannot be entered for a
Part Year for which legacy volumes exist. Duplicate part volumes
are not allowed. There can only be one volume per month/year
associated with the same Part Year, Receiving Plant, Product Line
and Project. In addition to adding and/or deleting volumes, all of
the fields, except for Organization, on the Part Volume screen can
be updated.

RFQ Volumes screen and Volume Splits screen are used to display
and maintain part volume information associated with the action plan.
The screens are also used to specify if the supplier quote is to be
based upon some percentage of the overall volumes for a part .
When the user accesses the RFQ Volumes or the Volume Splits
screens, all parts attached to the Action Plan will be displayed with
any existing receiving plant(s) and volume information. For each Part
/ Part Source System / Part Year attached to the Action Plan, one row
with a % Split of 100 will be displayed in the grid. If additional %
Split(s) have been specified for the part, a row for each additional %
Split will also be displayed.
These screens permit the action plan owner to perform the following
basic types of updates:
•

• Add Percent Volume splits to an action plan for a Part/Part
year.
• Delete previously input Percent Volume splits.
• Volume data associated with a part can be changed for the
purposes of the specific action plans.
