1. Award Ceremony – Intel -NVS Joint Contest on “Best Social Impact of
Project on Community Development
Intel and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti acknowledged and celebrated the winners of Intel – NVS joint
contest on 10 October at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bangalore (Rural). Mr. Apurva Chandra, Joint
Secretary, MHRD, Government of India and Commissioner Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti; Mr. Vijay
Shankar, Head Corporate Communications, Intel India;
Dr Srinivasan Ramani, Professor International Institute
of Information Technology (Bangalore) and former
associate Director (NCSDCT); Mr. T.C.S. Naidu, Joint
Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti; Mr. R.K.
Raju, Dstrict Magistrate, Bangalore Rural district; and
over 400 Students and teachers from numerous JNVs
across India graced the event. The winners included:
i. ‘Best Learner Project’ Category winners - Students of JNV
Kiltampalem, Vijayanagaram,Andhra Pradesh, the winners of the
‘Best Learner project on community development’ category,
showcased their project on ‘ICTs for upliftment of Tribal People’.
Through the project the learners used ICT tools to reach out to
tribal communities, to generate awareness on Health, Education
and Socio-economic issues. Replying to questions from Mr. Apurva
Chandra, JS MHRD and Commissioner, one student replied ‘We did
not want the tribal communities to be dependent on us and we
focused on teaching them basic computer skills so they can access information whenever they
need to. Lists of relevant websites on health and literacy issues were shared and we also made
efforts to motivate the younger generations of these communities to help them make the right
decisions for a better life’.
Students of JNV Bhatinda, Punjab, conducted a Nukad Natak (a small street play) on their project titled
‘illiteracy problems in nearby villages’ and
got the entire audience to take an oath to
put in their best efforts in not just eradicating
illiteracy in villages but to also provide
holistic education on social, cultural and
economic issues which will help them to
lead independent lives. The third prize
winners from JNV Cuttack, Orissa,
showcased their project on ‘Biodiversity’, as
a part of which they had conducted
awareness campaigns on the relevance and importance of maintaining biodiversity and saving the fragile
ecosystem in the area.
The ‘Best School’ category winners were JNV Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), JNV Titram, Kaithal (Haryana)
and JNV Nalbari (Assam) in first, second and third positions. The ‘Best Region’ Category winners
included Hyderabad Region, Pune Region and Chandigarh Region.

Learn contest will become socially responsible adults. You (the
students) are the seedlings who will pass on the knowledge to your
families and communities and you will become the trees under which
our society will flourish and transform and I must compliment you and
