How Can I Get My Central Heating Working?
1. How Can I
Get My Central
Heating Working?
(Quick Read)
2. Check the Gas,
Electric and
Water Supply
If you’ve recently had
building work, then there’s
a chance that your gas,
electric or water supply
has been switched off.
Make sure each of these
is turned on.
3. Check the Room
Thermostat
If you have one, make sure
the room thermostat is
turned up and the clock
timer is working correctly.
4. Check
Your Boiler’s
Pressure Gauge
The pressure gauge on
your boiler should be set
at around 1 bar. You reset
the pressure gauge via the
instructions in your central
heating’s user manual.
5. Check the Pilot
Light Hasn’t
Gone Out
Occasionally, the pilot
light will go out. Again,
refer to your central
heating’s user manual.
6. Check the
Boiler’s Timer
If you’ve recently had a
power cut, then your boiler’s
timer might have reset.
Simply reset the timer with
your desired times. You may
need to refer to the boiler’s
manual for a reminder on
how to do this.
7. Run the
Heating on Full
Try running your heating
on full for an hour or two.
This can occasionally work
out kinks in the system and
might trigger some heat.
8. Check Your Pipes
Haven’t Frozen
If it’s been very cold
recently, the condensate
pipe of your boiler can
freeze. Unfreeze the
pipes with hot towels
and a space heater.
9. Check the
Radiators
If even one of the radiators
is slightly warm, then
there is nothing wrong
with the boiler. You
probably need to clean
or bleed the radiators.
