Final Project Synopsis
The grant proposal for the final Powerpoint assignment for this class is a project titled
“Children’s Oral Hygiene Awareness Project” and will take place at East Elementary School (3
Wallace Drive) in Athens, Ohio. The project is designed to teach East Elementary students in
grades K-3 the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene. This project will last four years
and will involve coordination and collaboration with teachers and staff at East Elementary
School, Colgate Corporation, and Oral Health America. During these four years, teachers will
distribute dental supplies that include toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, and child-
appropriate informational pamphlets that have activities and information about dental health. The
supplies will be distributed every two months during the academic school year (meaning this
excludes summers and school breaks). To help inform students about oral health, speakers from
Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures will visit East Elementary once per year during the four-
year proposed period. While at East Elementary school, Colgate staff will present at a school-
wide assembly and will provide check-ups to students in grades K-3 in one of Colgate’s Bright
Smiles, Bright Futures mobile dental vans. To help fund the distribution of dental supplies, East
Elementary is proposing a grant to HealthPath Foundation of Ohio, which is a $22 million
supporting organization of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. HealthPath Foundation of Ohio
has supported granting to programs in Athens, Ohio in the past1
. Depending on the acceptance
and the amount of money received from the grant, Oral Health America will contribute by
providing additional dental supplies if needed. East Elementary is a rural-community elementary
school in the Appalachia region that recognizes the need for oral health education. With the
acceptance of this grant, East Elementary will be able to deliver beneficial oral health
supplementation to kindergarten-through-third grade students who typically come from low-
income households.
