The Food for Progress Partnership in Malawi has made progress towards its objectives. 240 farmer clubs have been established with 12,000 members who are growing more crops and adopting conservation practices. 200 TCE field officers are working to prevent HIV/AIDS in 400,000 people through counseling and referrals. 214 students are in teacher training college and 10,700 children are receiving lessons from them. Construction has begun on a new teacher training college. Nutrition training has started for 200 officers and 90 students on basic principles.

- 4. Objective 1 * Agricultural Development Establish 230 Farmers Clubs with 11,500 members to increase net earnings by at least 30%. - 9. Objective 1: Farmers Club The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to Date 9,000 farmers are now growing at least 4 different types of vegetables.
- 10. Objective 1: Farmers Club The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to Date All 12,000 farmers have been trained in tree planting. So far 74,430 seedlings have been produced and planted.

- 18. Expected Results over 3 Years in Brief Establish and operate 4 TCE Areas covering 400,000 people. Reach at least 60% of the target population with individual counseling. Create demands and access to health services on a local level – e.g. VCT, PMTCT, ARV’s etc. Mobilize 1,000 Passionates to be active in the fight against HIV/AIDS. - 19. The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to Date Objective 2: TCE – HIV/AIDS Prevention & Care 200 TCE Field Officers have been recruited and trained. They work in 200 areas – covering 400,000 people.

The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to Date Objective 2: TCE – HIV/AIDS Prevention & Care The Field Officers work through each of their fields of 2,000 people systematically – talking, mobilizing and counseling every individual to adopt safe sexual behavior and to care for people living with AIDS.

- 29. Expected Results over 3 Years in Brief 150 teachers will graduate from or will be studying at the Teacher Training College of Chilangoma. 7,500 children in rural areas have received lessons. A new Teacher Training College at Amalika in Shire Highlands will be constructed and equipped. 60 students will be enrolled at the new Teacher Training College supported by the USDA agreement - but will graduate after the project period. Laptops with internet connection have been installed with one for every 3 students. All computers have access to a database of study tasks and courses from the curriculum.
- 33. Objective 3: Training of Teachers The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to date Additional dormitories and classrooms for 112 students have been constructed at the existing Teacher Training College.

- 35. Objective 3: Training of Teachers The Food for Progress Partnership Progress to Date 35 HA of land have been secured for the second Teacher Training College in Thyolo District - and the project has been welcomed by all the local leaders.
