A government buy…for
some of the people
Webster’s defines plutocracy as: “A form of
government in which the supreme power is
lodged in the hands of the wealthy classes;
government by the rich…”

Anyone who is even marginally aware of the
political environment in America would be hard
pressed to disprove that such a government now
exists in the United States.

Study after study yield unrelenting proof that the
policies our government enacts tend to
frequently favor large corporate interests and the
wealthy: Citizens United v. Federal Election
Commission, the FCC - Telecommunications Act
of 1996 and now with net neutrality in play the
FCC is deliberating the fate of perhaps the last
bastion of a truly equitable free market
environment: the Internet.

Win back our democracy
For all who envision a nation that aspires to its
potential; for all who wish their progeny the
benefaction of a decent and just democracy; for
all who believe the multiplicity of our citizenry is a
strength; for all who believe in the American
Dream, supporting the efforts of Mayday.US is
not only a repudiation of our current state of
plutocracy, it is a fight to win back our
democracy.
Crowd-funding for the US
Fighting fire with fire
MAYDAY.US is a crowd-funded SuperPAC to end
all SuperPACs... including this one. Help us
reduce the influence of money in politics by
electing a Congress committed to fundamental
reform by 2016.

The greater good is good for all
For some of our potential large donors, that
would mean a democracy less representative of
their interests in particular. But we believe that for
at least some of these potential donors, that
personal sacrifice is consistent with their own
conception of the public good. For them, the
sacrifice is nothing as compared with a fireman
or soldier. But for all of us, it would be an
enormous contribution to our democracy.
A Super Pac to
end all Super Pacs
Help us fight the big monied interests to win back
our democracy

so if the entire $1 million was not reached by the
deadline, all donations would be returned. As well,
Lessig pledged that if the $1 million goal was
attained, he would personally find donors to match
funds totaling $1 million. Surprisingly enough, by the
19th day of May that $1 million mark had been
reached. However, Professor Lessig knew from the
outset a sizable amount of capital would be
necessary to mount any legitimate attack on the
monied interests in politics. Not as easily attained as
the first benchmark, the next one, $5 million, was
reached just hours before the deadline.
Corporate interests have
transformed our government
into a plutocracy
The corporate takeover
of our government has
been no accident
Quite to the contrary, it
has been engineered by
the likes of Karl Rove,
the Koch Brothers and
hugely influential
businesses like Goldman
Sachs and Wal-Mart.
These entities give
millions to politicians
who then legislate in the
best interests of their
donors. It is now time to
fight to win back our
democracy!
The Mayday Plan
May 1, 2014, Professor
Lessig embarked on a
most improbable
mission. To see if there
was even enough
grassroots support to
begin an effort to
reclaim our democracy,
Lessig endeavored to
raise $1 million dollars
via crowd funding in
furtherance of his
mission by May 31. It is
important to note this
was “kickstarter” crowd
funding effort,
Mayday.US
Mayday.US is a non-partisan organization co-
founded by Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig
to use the very system of legalized corruption
against itself. By way of Super PAC, the primary
political tool of the plutocrats, Mayday PAC
contributes to and supports those candidates,
irrespective of their political affiliation, who have
pledged to introduce or support legislation to expel
big money from our political process. A
representative democracy, one equally accessible to
wealthiest and poorest citizens alike, is an ideal of
the United States.
