Ray Kroc founded McDonald's in 1955 after being impressed by the McDonald brothers' simple menu and quality burgers and milkshakes at their California hamburger outlet. Kroc made a deal to open McDonald's franchises and give the brothers half of one percent of gross sales. By 1960, Kroc had opened around 200 McDonald's restaurants across America. Today, McDonald's has over 30,000 restaurants globally and continues to expand internationally, having introduced popular menu items like the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder.
